More than 400 government officials, diplomats, business leaders, and representatives from civil society gathered in Phnom Penh on June 3 as the British Embassy celebrated the 78th birthday of His Majesty King Charles III, highlighting the growing relationship between the United Kingdom and Cambodia.

Held at the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh, the annual King’s Birthday Party served as both a cultural showcase and a platform to reaffirm the longstanding partnership between the two countries across education, trade, development cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.

This year’s event was themed “Celebrating the Four Nations of the United Kingdom,” featuring food, music, and traditions from England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Speaking at the event, British Ambassador to Cambodia, Dominic Williams, said the celebration provided an opportunity to recognize partners who have helped strengthen bilateral ties.

The ambassador noted that the United Kingdom remains committed to supporting Cambodia’s development and fostering deeper engagement between the two nations.

The event also reflected growing UK interest in Cambodia’s economic and social development, particularly as British businesses continue to expand their presence in sectors including infrastructure, education, professional services, and technology.

Education & Trade Cooperation Continue To Expand

The celebration was attended by Hang Chuon Naron, who joined as Guest of Honour and highlighted the importance of the bilateral relationship.

In remarks delivered during the event, he said Cambodia and the United Kingdom have developed a partnership built on mutual trust and cooperation across a range of shared priorities.

The two countries have maintained diplomatic relations for decades, with collaboration extending across education, trade, development assistance, governance initiatives, and civil society programs.

Education remains one of the most visible pillars of the relationship, with increasing engagement between Cambodian institutions and British universities, professional training providers, and educational organisations.

Cultural Diplomacy & Regional Stability

Alongside celebrating British culture, the ambassador also acknowledged the situation along the Cambodia–Thailand border, reiterating the United Kingdom’s support for efforts aimed at achieving sustainable peace and regional stability.

Guests were treated to a menu featuring dishes representing all four nations of the United Kingdom, including Scottish smoked salmon, Welsh rarebit, Northern Irish potato farls, and traditional British desserts.

The King’s Birthday Party is held annually by British diplomatic missions around the world to mark the monarch’s official birthday and provide an opportunity to strengthen relationships with host governments, businesses, and community stakeholders.

This year’s Phnom Penh event underscored the continued momentum in UK-Cambodia relations as both countries seek to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, education, and sustainable development.
