Phnom Penh’s business and diplomatic community gathered in fine tartan style for Burns Night 2026, an evening that blended Scottish tradition, philanthropy, and high-spirited celebration in the heart of the capital.

Hosted at Rosewood Phnom Penh, the annual event brought together guests for a night of poetry, music, dancing, and dining, while raising US$2,150 for ISF Cambodia, a result made possible through strong participation in the charity auction and generous sponsor support.

A celebration of Scottish heritage in Phnom Penh

Burns Night, held globally each year to honour Scotland’s national poet Robert Burns, has become a much-anticipated fixture on Phnom Penh’s social calendar. This year’s edition delivered a polished yet convivial atmosphere, reflecting both the ceremonial roots of the tradition and the city’s increasingly sophisticated events scene.

Guests were treated to a classic Scottish feast, featuring Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, paired with carefully selected wines and whiskies. The menu was curated and executed by Rosewood Phnom Penh’s culinary team, whose attention to detail and presentation elevated the traditional fare into a refined dining experience suited to the venue’s reputation.

Live music by Kheltica set the tone for the evening, while energetic ceilidh dancing, led by Samantha McLaughlan of Epic Arts, kept the dance floor busy well into the night.

Ceremony, community and cause

True to Burns Night tradition, the formal programme included the Immortal Memory address, delivered by Dominic Williams, the British Ambassador to Cambodia, reflecting on the enduring relevance of Burns’ work and its themes of equality, humanity, and cultural pride.

The evening was guided with warmth and humour by Toastmaster Robbie Alexander, while the charity auction—one of the night’s highlights—was led by auctioneers Paul Dodd and Carrie Cameron. Strong bidding throughout the auction underscored the community’s willingness to support meaningful causes alongside social celebration.

Proceeds from the night will go toward ISF Cambodia’s work in education and youth development, reinforcing the event’s role not just as a social gathering, but as a platform for impact.

Strong sponsor and partner support

The success of Burns Night 2026 was underpinned by a wide network of sponsors and partners. Donations and support were provided by Pernod Ricard / Chivas Regal, Vignobles Arconian / Red Apron, the British Embassy in Cambodia, charity ticket sponsor Mad Monkey, and official travel partner MOVE.

Behind the scenes, the BritCham Cambodia Events Team—Tom, Chhengleab, Chhivleng, Setha, and Martin—played a central role in coordinating the evening, ensuring the event ran smoothly from opening address to final dance.

A night that blends tradition and purpose

Burns Night 2026 once again demonstrated Phnom Penh’s ability to host culturally rich, purpose-driven events that bring together diplomacy, business, and community. From poetry and protocol to music, dancing, and fundraising, the evening struck a balance between heritage and modern city life—ending with full hearts, full dance floors, and meaningful support for a local cause.
