Tourism, Trade and Investment Set to Drive Next Chapter of Cambodia–Russia Relations, Says BRICS House Cambodia President Vladimir Palancica

As Cambodia and Russia seek to deepen cooperation across tourism, trade, investment, education, and cultural exchange, Vladimir Palancica, President of BRICS House Cambodia and owner of Holiday Adventures, believes the relationship is entering a new phase with significant economic potential.

Speaking with Cambodia Investment Review following the recent meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Palancica described the talks as a positive step for both bilateral relations and broader ASEAN–Russia engagement.

Turning Diplomatic Ties into Economic Opportunities

Palancica said the discussions reflected a shared commitment to expanding cooperation in practical areas including business connectivity, energy, tourism, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

“I view the meeting as a very positive development for both Cambodia–Russia relations and broader ASEAN–Russia cooperation,” he said, adding that the dialogue focused on creating opportunities that could support long-term economic development while strengthening traditional ties.

He believes Cambodia is well positioned to attract new investment, diversify export markets, expand business partnerships, and reinforce its role as a gateway between Southeast Asia and emerging Eurasian markets.

From the perspective of BRICS House Cambodia, he said the meeting demonstrates a mutual desire to transform decades of political trust into tangible economic and development outcomes.

Tourism Could Deliver the Fastest Results

Among the sectors highlighted by the two governments, Palancica sees tourism as offering the greatest immediate opportunity.

He noted that increased visitor arrivals generate direct benefits for airlines, hotels, restaurants, transport providers, and local communities, while also creating a platform for wider business collaboration.

According to Palancica, stronger tourism links naturally encourage investment, educational exchanges, and deeper cultural understanding, making the sector an effective catalyst for broader bilateral cooperation.

Air Connectivity Key to Future Growth

Drawing on his experience as owner of Holiday Adventures, Palancica said Cambodia offers an attractive mix of cultural heritage, hospitality, natural attractions, and premium travel experiences that appeal to Russian and BRICS travellers.

He also highlighted recent efforts to strengthen tourism cooperation, noting that BRICS House Cambodia and AVB Holiday Adventures recently coordinated a Russian tourism delegation that arrived in Cambodia on June 4 and was officially welcomed by representatives of the Ministry of Tourism.

Looking ahead, he identified direct air connections as one of the most important priorities.

“Direct flights between Cambodia and Russia would make travel more convenient, increase tourist arrivals, and further support tourism, trade, and investment exchanges between our two countries,” he said.

Trade Agreement Could Open New Markets

Palancica also welcomed Cambodia’s proposal to explore a Free Trade Agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union, saying greater economic integration could unlock new opportunities for Cambodian businesses.

He believes enhanced market access could encourage investment while supporting industries including agriculture, agro-processing, food production, manufacturing, logistics, and tourism.

As Cambodia seeks to diversify its international economic partnerships, he said stronger engagement with Eurasian markets could improve resilience and create long-term commercial opportunities for both sides.

BRICS House Cambodia as a Bridge

Looking to the future, Palancica said BRICS House Cambodia aims to strengthen connections between Cambodia, Russia, and other BRICS countries through business networking, education, tourism promotion, cultural initiatives, and youth engagement.

He emphasised that while government cooperation provides an essential foundation, sustainable partnerships are ultimately built through relationships between entrepreneurs, students, institutions, and communities.

By facilitating dialogue, supporting business missions, and encouraging educational and cultural exchanges, BRICS House Cambodia hopes to play an active role in expanding practical cooperation and fostering closer people-to-people ties across the region.
