Vissoth Nam, chief executive of AirAsia Cambodia, has been named to the World Economic Forum Young Global Leaders Class of 2026, marking a high-profile international recognition for a rising Cambodian business leader.

The annual list recognizes leaders aged 40 and under for professional achievement, public-minded leadership and their potential to help shape global and regional agendas. This year’s class includes nearly 118 figures from business, government, finance and civil society.

Nam’s appointment comes as Cambodia seeks to strengthen tourism recovery, aviation links and its broader international economic profile. At AirAsia Cambodia, he has overseen the carrier’s expansion with a focus on operational efficiency, affordable travel and regional connectivity.

He also serves on the board of the Cambodia Tourism Board, placing him at the center of efforts to support inbound travel and position Cambodia as a more competitive destination in Southeast Asia.

Rare Recognition for Cambodian Leaders

Nam is reported to be among only a small number of Cambodian figures to receive the distinction since the Young Global Leaders program was established in 2004. Previous Cambodian honorees include Chea Serey, governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, who joined the 2019 class.

The Young Global Leaders network has grown into a community of more than 1,400 members and alumni across more than 120 nationalities. Past members have included Emmanuel Macron, Jack Ma and Tony Fernandes.

The forum’s selection process is viewed as highly competitive, with candidates chosen across sectors, regions and backgrounds.

Cambodia Connectivity Focus

In a statement, Nam said he accepted the recognition with humility and saw it not only as a personal honor, but also as a reflection of Cambodia’s continued progress.

He credited the achievement to the efforts of his team, shareholders, AirAsia Group partners and customers, adding that he hoped to use the platform constructively to contribute to discussions on connectivity, opportunity and sustainable growth.

The recognition may also provide additional visibility for Cambodia’s aviation and tourism sectors at a time when regional competition for travelers, investment and airline capacity remains intense.

AirAsia Cambodia launched as part of the wider AirAsia Group strategy to deepen its footprint in Southeast Asia, with Cambodia viewed as a market with long-term tourism and travel growth potential.

Broader Economic Signal

For Cambodia, the appointment of a private-sector executive to the 2026 class signals the increasing presence of local leaders operating across business, policy and international networks.

As the country continues to promote tourism, logistics and foreign investment, greater representation in global leadership forums could help elevate Cambodia’s profile among investors and policymakers alike.
