Lucky Supermarket, part of DFI Retail Group, marked its 31st anniversary in Cambodia by designating November as “Sustainability Awareness Month”, organising a series of impactful activities aimed at supporting the environment and promoting sustainable practices within the community.

This year’s theme “Sustainability: Today, Tomorrow, Together” underscores Lucky Supermarket’s commitment to deepening its focus on sustainability and empowering team members to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives and workplaces, in line with DFI Retail Group’s commitment to sustainability. While sustainability is embedded in Lucky Supermarket’s daily operations, this dedicated month provided an opportunity to further highlight its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) initiatives and act on its pledge to create a positive impact on local communities and the environment.

50 Enthusiastic Team Members

Sustainability Awareness Month kicked off with a community clean-up on Trong Moan Street, outside Lucky Supermarket’s head office. Nearly 50 enthusiastic team members in Lucky Supermarket’s distinctive red T-shirts joined forces to remove trash from the busy street, making a visible difference within just an hour.

Lucky Supermarket also partnered with local social enterprise Leng Dai (Compost City) to host a hands-on composting workshop. Team members learned practical ways to reduce waste at home by turning organic materials into compost, supporting healthier soils and reducing landfill contributions. One participant, Rina Roeun, shared, “This workshop was inspiring and practical. I’m excited to start composting at home and make a difference in my own small way.”

The month’s activities culminated in Lucky Supermarket’s largest initiative: the planting of 1,000 mangrove trees at Prek Thnout Community Fishery in Kampot, where the company recently opened a second store. Despite challenging weather conditions, Lucky Supermarket team members worked together to successfully plant mangrove trees that will enhance Cambodia’s coastal ecosystem and benefit the local community. This initiative also served as a meaningful way to celebrate 31years of serving Cambodia.
