Cambodia Investment Review
The European Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (EuroCham) has initiated Europe Week 2024, a dynamic seven-day event series designed to enhance Cambodian-European ties through various cultural, economic, and social gatherings. The celebration, which spans from May 6 to May 12, is hosted across multiple venues in Phnom Penh, targeting a diverse audience.
The week’s events commence on May 8 with an evening discussion on “A History of Cambodian-European Relations” at the BRED Bank Cambodia’s auditorium. This session is a collaborative effort between EuroCham and the Delegation of the European Union to Cambodia. Distinguished speakers, including H.E. Prof. Bundit Sapheacha, Dr. SOK Siphana, H.E. Prof. Chhem Kieth Rethy, and EU Ambassador to Cambodia, H.E. Igor Driesmans, will discuss the multifaceted relationship between Cambodia and Europe, focusing on its historical and contemporary aspects.
Promote Deeper Insight Into Our Collective Objectives & Challenges
“The dialogue on our shared history and engagements is crucial as it sets the stage for future collaborations and mutual understanding between Cambodia and the European Union,” noted H.E. Igor Driesmans. “Such events promote deeper insight into our collective objectives and challenges.”
The agenda continues on May 9 with a tour at AMPOV Distillery, in collaboration with CCI France Cambodge, where participants will explore the traditional rum-making process from local sugar cane, followed by a tasting session.
One of the week’s highlights is the “Connected Through Food” networking event on May 10 at Chew & Bash, Phnom Penh Island Club. This event, in association with AHK and HEINEKEN Cambodia, features the Chef’s Challenge. Aspiring chefs from the Academy of Culinary Arts Cambodia (ACAC) will prepare canapés that merge European culinary styles with Cambodian ingredients.
“Food bridges diverse cultures and this challenge showcases the culinary creativity and collaboration between Europe and Cambodia,” remarked Martin Brisson, EuroCham’s Executive Director. “It’s an opportunity to taste and appreciate our intertwined culinary heritage.”
On May 11, “Experience Europe” offers a family-friendly day at Coconut Park with activities designed for all age groups, celebrating the rich cultural traditions of Europe and Cambodia.
Strong Economic & Cultural Links Between The Regions
The series concludes with a Fun Run on May 12, organized in cooperation with Koh Pich and OCIC, and supported by Intercare Hospital and Ring Fitness, reinforcing the community and health aspects of the cultural exchange.
EuroCham, established in 2011 by the French, German, and British business associations, has since expanded to over 400 members from 11 European countries, playing a pivotal role in promoting European business interests in Cambodia.
“Europe Week is part of EuroCham’s broader effort to strengthen the connections between Cambodia and European nations through both business and cultural exchanges,” Brisson added.
