The American Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (AmCham) announced Matthew Pocock as its new Executive Director during an event held at the Novotel Grand Ballroom on November 1, 2024. Pocock succeeds Travis Mitchel, who has transitioned to a similar position at AmCham Ho Chi Minh City. This appointment aims to strengthen AmCham’s engagement with its members and enhance its role within Cambodia’s business environment.

Matthew Pocock brings considerable experience to his new role, having previously served with the European Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia and the UK Government’s Department for International Trade. In his introduction to AmCham members, Pocock highlighted his commitment to fostering growth within the chamber. “I look forward to collaborating with all of you to advance our shared goals,” he stated. “My aim is to enhance membership engagement, increase revenue sources, and create valuable business connections.”

Pocock’s diverse background includes a multicultural heritage, with roots in both Italy and the UK. His interests in Chinese culture, Buddhism, and classic Hollywood cinema contribute to his holistic approach to leadership. “Understanding different perspectives will be key as we work to address the needs of our diverse membership,” he noted.

Membership Growth and Strategic Direction

According to the 2024 AmCham AGM the chamber had reached a record membership of over 240 organizations and individual companies, spanning 14 sectors supported by seven industry committees. This broad representation reflects AmCham’s significance in Cambodia’s business ecosystem. A current board member remarked, “Our diverse membership is a testament to the chamber’s central role in promoting American and Cambodian commerce. Matthew’s leadership will be crucial as we explore new opportunities for collaboration and growth.”

AmCham, founded in 1996, serves as an independent non-profit organization linking American and Cambodian companies engaged in trade and investment.
