The Australian Embassy in Cambodia hosted its annual Taste of Australia 2026 event in Phnom Penh this week, bringing together senior representatives from government, business, hospitality, media, and the food and beverage industry to celebrate Australia’s premium agricultural and food exports while highlighting growing trade ties between the two countries.

Hosted by Australian Ambassador to Cambodia Derek Yip, the event showcased a diverse range of Australian products already available in the Cambodian market and highlighted opportunities to further expand bilateral trade in food and agriculture.

Premium Food Showcase Reflects Expanding Trade Ties

Guests were treated to a menu featuring premium Australian produce sourced from across the country, including Dinko Southern Bluefin Tuna from South Australia, Spencer Gulf prawns, Bangalow sweet pork from Byron Bay, Stanbroke Wagyu beef cheek from Queensland’s Darling Downs, and a pavlova dessert featuring native Australian ingredients such as finger limes and lemon myrtle.

The evening also featured Jindi Camembert from Victoria, Haigh’s Chocolates from Adelaide, Lark whisky from Tasmania, and Four Pillars gin from Victoria, showcasing the breadth of Australia’s premium food and beverage offering.

Australian Ambassador Derek Yip said the event was designed to highlight Australia’s reputation as a supplier of world-class food products while strengthening commercial and cultural connections with Cambodia.

“Taste of Australia is about sharing the diversity and calibre of Australian produce with our friends in Cambodia,” he said.

“From our farms and fisheries to our vineyards and artisan producers, Australia offers products that are renowned globally for their premium quality, safety and sustainability.”

Australian Wines Take Centre Stage

A key feature of the evening was the pairing of Australian wines with each course, showcasing the country’s internationally recognised wine industry alongside its food exports.

Australian wine specialist Darren Gall, who presented the wine selections throughout the evening, said the event brought together some of Cambodia’s most prominent business and community leaders.

“A Taste of Australia dinner hosted by His Excellency Derek Yip, Australia’s Ambassador to Cambodia, brought together a guest list of highnesses, excellencies, oknhas, and distinguished ladies and gentlemen. Each guest enjoyed a magnificent menu of Australian produce and a fantastic selection of outstanding Australian wines, paired to complement and highlight each dish,” Gall said.

“A brilliant job was done by all, and it was my great privilege and honour to once again be asked to pair and present the wines.”

Cambodia Imports A$100 Million in Australian Food Products

The showcase comes as Cambodia continues to increase imports of Australian agricultural and food products.

According to the Australian Embassy, Cambodia imports approximately A$100 million worth of Australian agricultural and food products annually, including around A$32 million in dairy products, A$17 million in beef, and A$25 million in cereal products.

Ambassador Yip noted that many Australian products are already widely available in Cambodia, making it easier for local consumers to access premium imported food and beverages.

“We are pleased that many of these products are already available in Cambodia, making it easy for Cambodians to enjoy a taste of Australia,” he said.

Lucky Supermarket Campaign Extends Market Reach

This year’s Taste of Australia initiative extends beyond the gala dinner through a month-long retail promotion designed to increase consumer awareness and access to Australian products.

From 26 June to 25 July, the Australian Embassy is partnering with Lucky Supermarkets to run a Taste of Australia campaign across 10 stores nationwide, providing shoppers with access to a wide range of Australian food and beverage products.

The campaign forms part of broader efforts to strengthen commercial links between Australian producers and Cambodian consumers while supporting greater market penetration for Australian brands.

Rising Consumer Demand Creates New Opportunities

Emma McDonald, Austrade’s Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for Vietnam and Cambodia, said Cambodia continues to emerge as an increasingly important market for Australian exporters.

“Cambodia is an increasingly important market for Australian food and agricultural exports, supported by growing consumer demand for premium, high-quality products,” she said.

“Taste of Australia provides an opportunity to connect Cambodian consumers and businesses with Australian producers and highlights potential to expand our bilateral trading relationship further.”

As Cambodia’s middle class continues to expand and consumer demand for premium imported products grows, Australian officials see increasing opportunities for exporters across the food, beverage, and agricultural sectors.

Taste of Australia 2026 forms part of Australia’s broader strategy to deepen economic engagement with Cambodia while promoting greater awareness of Australian products among Cambodian consumers and businesses.
