Cambodia Investment Review
Cambodia’s flagship Techo International Airport is set to officially open its doors to passengers on September 9, 2025, following a timeline reconfirmation by the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA). An official inauguration ceremony, presided over by Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, will be held on October 20, 2025.
The announcement underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring a seamless start to operations at the new airport, located just south of Phnom Penh. Once launched, the facility is expected to serve as the country’s largest aviation hub, significantly enhancing Cambodia’s international connectivity and capacity.
Strategic Milestone for National Infrastructure
Designed to eventually replace Phnom Penh International Airport, Techo International Airport represents a major leap in Cambodia’s aviation infrastructure. The state-of-the-art facility has been developed to accommodate growing passenger demand, with long-term plans to serve up to 50 million travelers annually.
The SSCA noted that the updated schedule allows for final operational readiness checks and additional collaboration among stakeholders, ensuring a smooth and efficient rollout from day one. Enhancements are currently underway across all service touchpoints, including immigration, baggage handling, commercial services, and airside operations.
Inauguration to Highlight National Development Vision
The inauguration ceremony on October 20 will be a high-profile event attended by top government officials, international delegates, and industry leaders. The event will not only mark the airport’s formal debut but also signal Cambodia’s ambitions to position itself as a competitive player in regional transportation and logistics.
SSCA’s statement emphasized that the extension of time between operational launch and formal inauguration is being used to perfect the passenger experience and ensure the highest standards of service.
Boost for Business, Tourism, and Trade
Techo International Airport is expected to deliver wide-reaching benefits for the Cambodian economy. Enhanced air connectivity will support inbound tourism, facilitate trade, and provide a modern entry point for foreign investors and international businesses.
The launch comes as the region’s aviation industry continues to recover from global disruptions, with Southeast Asia once again seeing growth in air traffic and route expansions. The airport’s strategic location and scalable infrastructure make it a key asset in Cambodia’s efforts to modernize its economy and improve its competitiveness.
With its runway, terminal systems, and commercial zones nearing full readiness, the airport is well-positioned to welcome travelers from around the world starting this September.
