The new partnership comes at a time of increased economic engagement between Australia and Cambodia. In 2023, bilateral trade between the two nations surpassed AUD 1.3 billion, marking an 18% increase from the previous year. With agreements like the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, Australian businesses now enjoy tariff-free access to Cambodia’s market, making it an increasingly attractive investment destination.
Ashley Irving highlighted the potential impact of this partnership as AusCham Cambodia enters a new phase of growth in 2025. “We are looking forward to a year of increased events, visibility, and stronger engagement with the business community,” Irving said. “This partnership with CIR Media will help us capitalize on the strong interest shown by the Australian government in the region, particularly under its Southeast Asia agenda. We are keen to support Australian businesses and help them navigate the opportunities available in Cambodia.”
Australia’s Commitment To Cambodia’s Economic Growth
The Cambodia-Australia Partnership for Regional Economic Development, which supports Cambodia’s transition from Least Developed Country status, further underscores Australia’s commitment to the country’s economic growth. With Cambodia’s youthful population, growing middle class, and strategic location along the Southern Economic Corridor, Australian investors have significant opportunities to contribute to Cambodia’s dynamic market.
Irving added, “Cambodia’s young, vibrant workforce and expanding middle class, combined with its strategic location, make it an attractive market for Australian businesses looking to grow and diversify their operations.”
Both CIR Media and AusCham Cambodia aim to leverage their collective resources to foster stronger business ties, ensure broader awareness of opportunities, and drive long-term investment and growth in Cambodia.
