Cambodia Investment Review
The Cambodia-Japan “Co-Creation” Networking Symposium, event aimed at enhancing Cambodia’s agriculture, emission detection, and innovation through cutting-edge space and satellite technology.
Organized by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the symposium marked significant anniversaries and strengthened the friendship between Cambodia and Japan.
Networking Opportunities Between Cambodian and Japanese Firms
The symposium was launched to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of Friendship between Cambodia and Japan and the 50th Anniversary of Friendship between ASEAN and Japan. The event hosted eight Japanese companies specializing in state-of-the-art technologies.

These firms introduced services and applications capable of upgrading agriculture, emission reduction, and forest conservation to Cambodian government representatives, organizations, and the private sector.
The occasion provided essential networking opportunities between Cambodian and Japanese firms in fields such as Agriculture, Green Technology, Banking & Microfinance, Manufacturing, and more.
Marisa Haruta, Chief Representative of the Phnom Penh office at JETRO, opened the event. She emphasized the importance of cooperation and co-creation, stating, “Since this year is the 70 years friendship anniversary between Cambodia and Japan, we wanted to seek new opportunities for co-creation.” Haruta’s words reflected a strong commitment to collaborative initiatives between the two nations.
She also acknowledged Cambodia’s innovative spirit, citing the country’s adoption of blockchain technology to launch the digital currency Bakong. Her optimistic closing remarks resonated with a shared vision for success in Cambodia-Japan relations.
Utilizing Data Collection Using Satellites, AI, And Sensors
Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, Atsushi Ueno, underscored the milestone year for relations between the two countries and highlighted the upgrade to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He emphasized the potential synergy between Japanese innovations and Cambodian industries.

“I believe that these innovative businesses will be a driving force in enhancing efficiency and increased profitability in Cambodias agricultural sector,” he noted, referring to the technologies introduced by Japanese companies, including data collection using satellites, AI, and sensors.
He further expressed a vision for collaborative partnership, emphasizing a new relationship based on mutual economic growth.
Oknha Sok Piseth highlighted the strong relationship between Cambodia and Japan, detailing Japan’s significant investments in Cambodia. “Japan is one of the largest foreign investors and trading partner of Cambodia. In 2022, bilateral trade between our two countries reached $2.4 billion. The total Japanese investment in Cambodia is around $2.9 billion,” he stated, referring to data from the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC).
He also stressed Japan’s role in enhancing Cambodia’s agriculture through cutting-edge satellite technology, emphasizing the commitment to sustainable development and climate goals.

To commemorate the significant anniversaries and to promote ASEAN-Japan/ Cambodia-Japan Economic Co-Creation, the Japanese government is actively fostering the next phase of friendship and cooperation.
The symposium marked a significant step towards this goal, highlighting new opportunities for collaboration in fields such as agriculture, emissions tracing, and technological innovation. With the strengthening of ties between the two countries, this event signifies a promising future filled with joint efforts for mutual benefit and prosperity.
