Cambodia Investment Review
Cambodia marks the annual commemoration of King-Father Norodom Sihanouk on October 15, honouring the late monarch’s legacy and his role in the country’s independence, territorial integrity and national unity.
The public holiday marks the anniversary of his death in Beijing on October 15, 2012. This year marks 14 years since his passing.
Born in Phnom Penh on October 31, 1922, Norodom Sihanouk first ascended the throne in April 1941. He became a central figure in Cambodia’s modern history, serving in several leadership roles through decades of political change.
He returned to the throne in 1993 and reigned until his abdication in October 2004, after which he held the title of King-Father.
The annual observance traditionally includes ceremonies at the Royal Palace and government institutions, offering an opportunity to reflect on his contribution to Cambodia and remember his place in the nation’s history.
