Ny Anann Keo, 25, has officially been awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, making him one of the youngest professionals globally to hold the “gold standard” of investment credentials. Despite being entirely locally educated with a background in Entrepreneurship and Innovation and having no prior academic background in Finance, Anann passed all three levels of what is widely regarded as the “hardest exam on Earth” on his first attempts by age 23.
Local Talent Shortage and Attracting International Capital
The achievement is particularly significant given the current landscape of the profession in the Kingdom. There are currently only 16 CFA charter holders based in Cambodia, the majority of whom are foreigners. By achieving the charter without a traditional finance degree, Anann hopes to inspire a mindset shift among Cambodian students.
Anann emphasizes that the number of CFA charter holders is a key indicator of a country’s financial maturity. As Cambodia seeks to attract more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), having professionals who meet international ethical and technical standards is essential.
“International investors look for markets that speak the global language of finance,” Anann explained. “The CFA charter signals to the world that Cambodia’s financial sector is built on professional competence and rigorous ethics. This trust is vital for lowering perceived risks and attracting the international capital necessary to fuel our nation’s growth.”
Expanding Access to Finance
To support the local investment community, Anann is launching several initiatives. He plans to provide CFA exam prep tutoring and produce educational videos to simplify complex investment concepts for public investors. Furthermore, as a key volunteer, he provides financial modeling training to students participating in the CFA Institute Research Challenge.
In addition to his educational efforts, Anann is partnering with a local firm, Vikasa, to provide professional Business Valuation Consultation and Transaction Advisory services. This partnership aims to help Cambodian businesses attract capital by utilizing global-standard business valuations.
