Cambodia Investment Review

Cambodia’s startup ecosystem will be in focus next week as the International Business Chamber of Cambodia (IBC) hosts its Regular General Meeting under the theme Start-Up Stories: Lessons from Cambodia’s Innovators, taking place on Wednesday, February 4, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh.

The pre-event gathering combines IBC’s annual meeting with a short panel discussion and networking lunch, bringing together investors, founders, and business leaders to explore how startups are navigating funding, talent, regulation, and scaling in Cambodia’s evolving business environment.

Designed as a practical, experience-driven session, the discussion will focus on real-world challenges facing growth-stage companies, reflecting a broader shift in Cambodia’s startup landscape from early ideation to execution and sustainability.

Panel speakers

  • Mr. Bora Kem – Partner, Mekong Strategic Capital
  • Mr. Sophorth Khuon – Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Morakot Technology
  • Mr. Tom Edwards – Co-Founder, Mad Monkey

Together, the panel represents perspectives from private capital, technology, and hospitality-led ventures, offering insight into investment decision-making, operational growth, and leadership in Cambodia’s competitive market.

Key themes expected to be explored include access to growth capital, building and retaining talent, navigating regulatory requirements, and leveraging technology as companies scale locally and regionally. The session is intended to provide IBC members with grounded insights rather than headline success stories, highlighting trade-offs and lessons learned along the startup journey.

Registration opens at 11:30 AM, with the program running from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The member fee is US$37.50, which includes a three-course business lunch.

The event forms part of IBC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen dialogue within Cambodia’s private sector, while recognising the growing role of startups and innovative businesses in job creation, investment, and economic diversification.
