Cambodia Investment Review

ByteDC Solutions Co., Ltd, a leading data center and cloud services provider in Cambodia, has announced a strategic partnership with Huawei Technologies (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on February 21, 2025, at ByteDC’s headquarters, marking a significant step toward enhancing Cambodia’s cloud infrastructure and digital ecosystem.

The collaboration is expected to accelerate the adoption of hybrid cloud solutions, aligning with Cambodia’s broader push for digital transformation, particularly under the government’s 5th pillar initiatives. The partnership highlights the growing importance of the country’s data center sector and its potential to support businesses, financial institutions, and government agencies in their digital journeys.

Strengthening Cambodia’s Cloud Ecosystem

ByteDC, a Tier III certified data center launched in 2023, is at the forefront of Cambodia’s expanding digital infrastructure. The company’s data center, located in Phnom Penh’s Global Tech Exchange, offers 7,529 square meters of space and can support up to 1,000 IT racks. With the MoU, ByteDC aims to leverage Huawei’s advanced cloud technology to introduce scalable and secure hybrid cloud solutions tailored to Cambodia’s growing digital economy.

“This MoU represents a shared vision between ByteDC and Huawei to empower Cambodian businesses with state-of-the-art cloud technology,” said Bob Lim, CEO of ByteDC. “We are committed to delivering reliable and scalable cloud services that support the nation’s digital ambitions.”

As part of the partnership, ByteDC is working toward becoming a Huawei Public Cloud Distributor while simultaneously investing in private cloud infrastructure at its data center. This move will provide enterprises in Cambodia with seamless access to cloud-based services, strengthening the country’s competitiveness in the regional digital economy.

Cambodia’s Growing Data Center Potential

The MoU comes at a time when Cambodia’s data center sector is poised for rapid expansion. According to Knight Frank’s 2024 Data Centres Report, the country’s increasing reliance on e-commerce, e-banking, and government-led digital initiatives is driving demand for secure and efficient data storage solutions.

Industry analysts expect further legislative changes, including potential government mandates requiring companies to store data within Cambodia, which would significantly boost demand for local data centers. ByteDC, alongside competitors like Chaktomuk Data Centre (CDC) and Daun Penh Data Centre (DPDC), is well-positioned to capitalize on this growth.

Despite challenges such as power supply costs and infrastructure development, Cambodia’s data center sector continues to attract investment, with new projects like the $30 million government-led data center expected to come online by 2025. The increasing presence of international technology partners, such as Huawei, further cements Cambodia’s role as an emerging data hub in Southeast Asia.

A Step Forward for Cambodia’s Digital Future

The partnership between ByteDC and Huawei Cambodia underscores the strategic importance of cloud computing in supporting businesses and public sector digitalization. By providing hybrid cloud solutions with robust cybersecurity measures, the collaboration aims to enhance operational efficiency for enterprises while ensuring compliance with future data governance regulations.

With the Cambodian government pushing forward digital economy initiatives, partnerships like this will be instrumental in bridging the infrastructure gap and positioning the country as a key player in the regional cloud computing market.
