Cambodia Investment Review

In a landmark event that marks a new chapter in aviation and bilateral relations between Cambodia and Vietnam, Vietjet has officially launched a direct flight route connecting Siem Reap, a pivotal heritage city of Cambodia, to Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. The announcement was made during the Vietnam – Cambodia Investment and Trade Promotion Forum in Hanoi, a significant platform underscoring the deepening economic ties between the two Southeast Asian nations.

The inaugural ceremony, graced by the presence of both nations’ prime ministers, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, along with key leaders from various ministries, departments, and business sectors, signified more than just an air route opening. It represented the strengthening of a strategic partnership, characterized by mutual economic cooperation and cultural exchange.

PM: Optimism about the future of international air travel

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, in his remarks at the ceremony, expressed his optimism about the future of international air travel and lauded Vietjet for their initiative in bridging the two countries through this new route. “This launch is not just about connecting two cities; it’s about connecting people, cultures, and economies,” stated Prime Minister Hun Manet. He added, “We anticipate this route to be a catalyst for more to come, enhancing the bond between Vietnam and Cambodia.”

Commencing on December 15, 2023, the Siem Reap – Hanoi route will see Vietjet operate seven round-trip flights weekly. Each leg of the journey will be approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, promising a comfortable and efficient travel experience. The route will utilize Vietjet’s modern aircraft fleet and offer passengers a taste of rich Vietnamese cuisine, an aspect of the airline’s commitment to enhancing the flying experience.

Increasing bilateral tourism and trade

The strategic importance of this new route extends beyond the convenience it offers to travelers. Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport, situated close to the globally renowned Angkor archaeological site, is a gateway to Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage. Meanwhile, Hanoi, a city steeped in history and culture, offers visitors a glimpse into Vietnam’s thousand-year-old capital.

The introduction of the Siem Reap – Hanoi route by Vietjet is expected to play a pivotal role in fostering investment cooperation, tourism growth, cultural exchange, and educational opportunities between the two countries. This initiative is part of Vietjet’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity within the region and beyond, with an expansive flight network covering key destinations in Asia and other continents.
