Japan-Cambodia Co-Creation Symposium Paves the Way for Next-Generation Agriculture and Emission Tracing Technology

The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) are set to host a momentous symposium titled “Cambodia-Japan Co-Creation Networking Symposium: Upgrading Cambodia’s Agriculture, Emission Tracing, and Innovation Using Cutting Edge Space/Satellite Technology” on August 11, 2023.

This event is scheduled to take place at the Hyatt Regency in Phnom Penh, and will showcase eight trailblazing Japanese companies that are revolutionizing areas such as agriculture, emission detection and tracing, and forest conservation.

This symposium will commemorate the 70th anniversary of friendship between Cambodia and Japan, and the 50th anniversary of friendship between ASEAN and Japan. It is a step towards propelling economic co-creation for future global trends in both countries.

The CCC and JETRO pledged to increase their collaborative efforts moving forward.

Ms. Marisa Haruta, Chief Representative of JETRO Phnom Penh, underlines the importance of this event, stating, “Our goal is to leverage this unique platform to introduce cutting-edge technologies to Cambodian government, organizations, and private representatives. These technologies will not only upgrade agriculture but will also play a significant role in emission reduction and forest conservation, thereby encouraging a move towards a greener future.”

The symposium will introduce representatives from leading Japanese companies, including:

  • Asuzeto Singapore Pte Ltd/Asuene Inc (Japan)
  • Green Carbon
  • Nippon Koei
  • Sagri
  • Synspective Inc
  • Tenchijin Inc
  • Yanmar Agribusiness

Their technological advancements will be the highlight of the event, providing valuable insights to the participants.

Neak Oknha Kith Meng, President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC), will deliver the opening remarks. Following his address, an in-depth introduction of satellite-based projects by JAXA and technologies of the Japanese companies will be provided, with each company having a 15-minute window to share their innovations.

“We are enthusiastic about the various opportunities that Cambodia and Japan can co-create, especially in the new tech sector,” said a representative from JAXA. “This symposium will not only strengthen our existing relationships but also open up new avenues for collaboration.”

Following the morning symposium, a networking lunch will be held, providing an opportunity for participants to connect with Japanese companies on a personal level. This will create a platform for firms from sectors like Agriculture, Green, Technology, Agriculture Cooperative, Banking & Microfinance, and Manufacturing, to establish strategic partnerships.

The symposium marks an important step towards achieving the ASEAN-Japan Economic Co-Creation Vision, a plan drafted by the Japanese government towards the next 50 years with ASEAN member states. This event will set the stage for the continued growth of friendship and economic partnership between ASEAN and Japan in the decades to come.
