Panasonic has launched the Kid Witness News (KWN) Global Program in Cambodia with the purpose of empowering students and nurturing their filmmaking skills through competition.

The KWN Program is a global filmmaking competition conducted by Panasonic, for students between 10 and 18 years. It develops talents with an exclusive opportunity to collaborate with established filmmakers and photographers while making use of professional Panasonic LUMIX camera equipment.

Paññāsāstra International School (PSIS) has been nominated as the first Cambodian educational institution to participate in the secondary category of the KWN Global Program. The students will create a short film after receiving a free rental of Panasonic LUMIX camera equipment during the film-making period. Panasonic Cambodia will further enrich this learning experience with insightful lectures on the operation of the equipment and essential guidance on video filmmaking procedures.

The young participants will craft their short films around themes derived from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This alignment provides a crucial platform for discussing pertinent global issues and fostering insightful dialogues through the medium of film.

Submissions from each country will be judged and the winners will be announced during Global Summit on Saturday, October 21st, 2023. The event will be live streamed from the Tokyo venue, with participants in the US, the UAE, Indonesia, Brazil, Vietnam, and other countries connected online. Children from countries all around the world will be joining at the same time through the Internet, despite their different locations. They will discuss social issues, participate in a workshop for video production, and watch each video production together.

Mrs. Nileshika Wijenaike, the head of Digital and Marketing Communication of Panasonic Cambodia, expressed her optimism and enthusiasm during the launch event. She remarked, “I wholeheartedly encourage the students to actively engage in the teamwork and filmmaking to unleash creativity through this remarkable program. This will be a great opportunity for you to articulate the viewpoints on environmental concerns and sustainable development. I sincerely hope that our students will emerge victorious in this competition, thereby bringing honor and pride to our country”.

Mr. Lun Peou, Principal of Paññāsāstra International School (PSIS), expressed his excitement and optimism. He remarked, “I am very much thankful to Panasonic Cambodia for nominating Paññāsāstra International School (PSIS) as the secondary category entry of the prestigious KWN global competition representing Cambodia for the first time.”

“Being chosen to participate in this program is a testament to the outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements of our students. I am sure they will put their maximum effort to bring the title of Cambodia and make us all proud,” he added.

Since its inception in 1989, the KWN global program has expanded its reach to now 35 countries, involving an impressive count of 185,000 students and teachers who have collectively created a library of over 10,000 short films.
