The “Bar World of Tomorrow” Season 2 successfully organized in Cambodia!

Cambodia Investment Review

The Bar World of Tomorrow (BWOT) is a global sustainability training programme developed in partnership with Trash Collective and the Sustainable Restaurant Association. Initially launched to support the hospitality industry during the pandemic, the training targets both bartenders and bar owners to educate them on sustainable and responsible practices for a greener and more inclusive “bar world of tomorrow”.

Developed for the hospitality industry, the course covers all aspects of sustainability and responsibility – from fresh ingredient use to responsible serving of alcoholic beverages and waste management – directly aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is based on five pillars (brand knowledge, ingredients, service, bar and staff) and the 5Rs model: Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Respect.

A platform for discussion and knowledge sharing

As part of the ‘Valuing People’ pillar under our Sustainability & Responsibility roadmap ‘Good Times from a Good Place’, the Group has committed to train and upskill 10,000 bartenders on sustainability practices through the lens of the Bar World of Tomorrow by 2030. We have already trained 6,400 bartenders worldwide so far and across Asia with over 1,200 bartenders trained through BWOT as of 2022.

Pilot in-person workshops were introduced in Hong Kong early 2021 in collaboration with Food Made Good Hong Kong. Since then, the trainings have expanded to 15 more affiliates in the region: Cambodia, China, the Gulf, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Vietnam; providing a platform for discussion and knowledge sharing on sustainability among the local bartending scenes.

Sharing our spirit of conviviality with consumers

Cambodia had a very successful Season 1 of BWOT with 40 bartenders trained in 2022.  With Season 2, Pernod Ricard Cambodge achieved another milestone with 36 bartenders trained on 17 May 2023.

Daren Ong, the Managing Director of Pernod Ricard Cambodge, empathizes “Valuing people is one of core commitments of Pernod Ricard’s Sustainability and Responsibility roadmap 2030”.

With bartenders being a vital partner in sharing our spirit of conviviality with consumers, the BWOT campaign, aims to educate, empower and encourage bartenders to actively contribute to protecting the environment, even from their workplaces and to establish a sustainable and responsible bar culture in Cambodia and raise awareness across the hospitality industry, and especially amongst bartenders.”
