Mr. Thierry Tea, CEO of Dara Ventures said: “The team managing the brands in Cambodia has been able to navigate through the downturn of the economy during pandemic and sustain its momentum. This demonstrates the stickiness and affection of the brands and their product lines, very much sought after by the modern young population in Phnom Penh. After operating 7 retail stores, the company is targeting to develop more entertainment, lifestyle, wellness, sustainable, ethical retail and distribution segments in the Cambodian market.”

Optimistic in the long-term outlook of Cambodia

In 2020, 2021 and 2022, the overall retail market in Cambodia has been severely hit by the pandemic, with some brands closing or being acquired. The physical retail market has been heavily challenged by the online sellers on social media. Mr. Thierry Tea is optimistic in the long-term outlook of Cambodia, considering that Cambodian consumers are more and more looking at lifestyle and purchasing power is increasing. The key is the omni channel.

“There is no more online business on one hand and physical brick and mortar business on the other hand. Most retail businesses have to shift into an omni channel that includes digital interactions and physical on-site customer experience with human touch.” he explains.
