In Q2 total transactions recorded a 421% year-on-year record trading quarter with 30 million shares worth $77.91 million exchanged as the overall index fell 11% to 491 points and market cap also dropped 9% to $1.86 billion.
Index dropped 5% from last quarter
Kim Sophanita Director at CSX told Cambodia Investment Review that in Q3 of 2022, the CSX Index saw a decline of approximately 5% compared to Q2 of 2022 as it dropped from 491.45 points in Q2 to only about 467.02 points in Q3 2022.
“This was mainly due to the rise of the inflation, the increase in the bank’s deposit rate, and impact from the prolonged Russian-Ukraine war that keeps pressuring Cambodia’s securities market like in other global markets,” Sophanita said.

“Nevertheless, the negative effect toward Cambodia’s market is minimal compared to the global equity markets (excluding the United States) which experienced a drop of more than 11% in Q3,” she added.
The record quarter comes after a previous record with $27.4 million traded increasing 221% from $8.5 million in the same period of 2021.
The main reason for the record quarterly trading amount was attributed to the investment firms Morgan Stanly’s $43.23 million purchase of ACLEDA Bank shares marking the largest ever Negotiated Trading Method buy.
Transactions value return to ‘normal’
Reflecting on terms of transaction, the trading value of Q3 2022 was approximately KHR 1 billion ($250,000). It is one-fifth compared to Q2 and about the same to Q3 2021.
“Q2 2022 data was exceptionally high due to the largest ever NTM trade of about $43 million and other large deals that occur during this quarter. Considering the retail trading activity so far, it remained strong,” Sophanita added.
