Cambodia Investment Review
Reaffirming the deep care and solidarity with the people of Cambodia
In a time of great hardship for many Cambodian families, Smart Axiata has stepped forward with compassion and commitment, donating 3,000 food aid packages, to support displaced citizens currently sheltering at the Wat Po 5000 Safety Centre in Preah Vihear Province.
This initiative, carried out in close coordination with the Preah Vihear Provincial Administration, responds to the government’s urgent call to assist communities relocated from border areas. Each aid package includes rice (6 tons), soy sauce (3,000 bottles), sausages (1.5 tons), and 30,000 packs of instant noodles—essential items to help ease the burden for families temporarily away from their homes.
“At Smart Axiata, we see ourselves not just as a technology provider, but as part of the Cambodian community,” said Ziad Shatara, CEO of Smart Axiata. “We genuinely care about the wellbeing of our people and believe it is our duty to stand by them, especially in times of uncertainty. This is about humanity, solidarity, and being present when it truly matters.”
More than just a donation, Smart employees played an active role, helping to prepare, deliver, and personally distribute the aid to families at the safety center, offering encouragement and showing empathy on the ground. This heartfelt effort reflects Smart’s sustainability commitment under the pillar of Advancing Our People and Communities, focused on supporting vulnerable groups and building resilience across the nation.
This recent donation builds on Smart’s continued humanitarian support during difficult times. The company also expressed sincere gratitude to frontline soldiers for their courage in defending the nation by contributing essential supplies, including 2 tons of rice, 500 kg of sausages, 1,000 bottles of soy sauce, 416 cases of instant noodles, 30 parasols, 30 umbrellas, and 200 t-shirts—providing both practical assistance and moral encouragement. In parallel, Smart extended its support to the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training by delivering critical supplies to help welcome and care for returning Cambodian migrant workers.
His Excellency Ouk Kimsan, Deputy Governor of Preah Vihear Province, expressed sincere appreciation for Smart’s timely assistance. “This generous support from Smart Axiata shows the company’s true dedication to standing with the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia, particularly in times of need,” he said.
Smart is continuing to monitor the evolving needs of returning migrant workers as it prepares the next phase of its relief efforts, ensuring no one is left behind during this critical time.
As Cambodia faces growing challenges, Smart Axiata remains steadfast in its role as a caring corporate citizen—committed to supporting the people of Cambodia not only through technology, but through compassion, action, and unity.
