“Technology is ever evolving, and as we strive to become the most trusted tech brand for consumers and businesses by 2026, we must remain vigilant and use technology as a force for good. This nomination not only reflect our commitment to delivering solutions that meet the need of our customers but also our effort to contribute to a more sustainable Cambodia,” said Ziad Shatara, CEO of Smart Axiata.

Pioneering Cybersecurity

Their deployment of the Next Generation Signaling Firewall (NGSF) deployment saw Smart become the first telecommunications company in Cambodia to integrate this advanced global security solution. This cutting-edge technology ensures robust protection against signaling threats and enhances network security for millions of users across the country.

Smart has also achieved the ISO 27001:2013 certification for its Information Security Management System (ISMS), an internationally recognized benchmark for data protection and cybersecurity standards. This certification solidifies the company’s position as a trusted guardian of sensitive data in the digital era.

Utilizing Technology for Emission Reduction

With “Advancing Green Economy” as one of their sustainability pillars, Smart utilizes the power of technology to tackle climate-related issues by their willingness to adopt new technologies to reduce emissions, such as their implementation of iPowerStar 2.0in 2023, an energy-saving feature that reduces power usage by 4.5% in implemented sites. Additionally, Smart continues to equip their mobile network towers with solar panels, with 295 new solar-powered sites being deployed in 2023.

Driving Digital Literacy and Online Safety for Children

Beyond its technical advancements, Smart has made significant strides in promoting digital literacy across Cambodia. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth,, and Sport, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, and private partners, Smart has organized workshops to equip students with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital landscape safely.

In addition, Smart has championed child online protection by working with organizations such as Action Pour Les Enfants (APLE) Cambodia to create safer digital environments for children.

Commitment to ESG Excellence

Smart’s initiatives reflect its broader commitment to sustainability. The company’s efforts are encapsulated in its 2023 Sustainability Report, which showcases achievements under four pillars: Advancing Digital Society, Advancing Green Economy, Advancing Our People & Communities, and Driving Governance & Risk.

The receipt of EuroCham’s ESG “Technology Leader Award” reinforces Smart’s role as an industry pioneer and highlights its dedication to advancing a safer and more inclusive digital future for Cambodia.
