Canopy Sands Development has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainable development with its flagship project, the Bay of Lights, being named the Regional Development of the Year and Township Development of the Year at the Cambodia Real Estate Award 2023.
The award for Regional Development of the Year recognizes the project’s significant contribution to the economic and social development of the region, while the award for Township Development of the Year recognizes the project’s holistic approach to community building and sustainable development.
Creating a vibrant and inclusive community
The Bay of Lights is an ambitious project spanning 934 hectares that will transform the landscape of Sihanoukville and set the standard for sustainable development in Cambodia. The development focuses on six key pillars: Financial Services, Entertainment & Lifestyle, Tourism, Health & Wellness, Education, and Arts & Culture.
Ian Tan, the spokesperson for Canopy Sands Development, said, “Our vision for the Bay of Lights is to create a vibrant and inclusive community providing its residents a high quality of life. We strongly believe that urban planning is critical in building a sustainable new city that can stand the test of time.”
The Bay of Lights is a prime example of Canopy Sands Development’s commitment to model urban planning. The development incorporates green spaces, pedestrian-friendly streets, and a variety of transportation options, including a potential cable car system, electric buses, and bicycle lanes. The up-and-coming city also incorporates sustainable design principles, such as using renewable energy, rainwater harvesting, and waste recycling.
Commitment to creating a positive impact
Canopy Sands Development’s commitment to community building and creating a positive social impact through its projects were also recognized at the award gala, with the company receiving the CSR and Social Impact Developer of the Year award. Earlier this year, the company donated some money and roofing materials to rebuild the lives of storm victims in Preah Sihanouk, among many of its grassroots initiatives to support the local community.
