As battle-weary golfers refreshed themselves after an afternoon campaign on the wind-swept greens of #ChhunOnGolfCourse on Friday, 29 Nov 2024, the evening came alive with a spirited mix of camaraderie, congratulatory cheers for low scores, and words of comfort for lost balls and wayward shots.
Set against the cool November breeze and a clear starry sky, the lively gathering soon saw light banter give way to animated exchanges of “war stories” about tricky winds and unforgiving sand bunkers, humorously likened to the Sarlacc Pit of Carkoon in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
The highlight of the evening was the charity auction, where attendees enthusiastically bid on items ranging from fine art and high-tech range finders to limited-edition whisky and premium laptops. The auction was masterfully led by @CandraTanpatti, golf convenor and emcee from @ECGolf and @GreenJoy, whose energetic calls for bids had guests competing to surpass last year’s USD 12,000 raised for Mine Action.
In addition, QR codes shown on screen and on tables allowed guests to make direct contributions to this year’s designated beneficiary, the @KanthaBophaFoundation, further reinforcing the spirit of philanthropy that defines the #RedHornetChairman’sCup.
By the time the Guest of Honor, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, took his leave, the total estimated proceeds raised had already exceeded last year’s proceeds raised. A final tally will be made and announced in due course.
“This year’s Red Hornet Chairman’s Cup has been our most remarkable edition yet, not just in terms of the funds raised but also in the diversity and spirit of our participants,” said @DaltonWong, Chairman of the RHCC. “We are deeply grateful to our sponsors, partners, and everyone who contributed to making this event such a success. In particular, we are especially grateful that DPM took time from his busy schedule to grace our event and even helped to present prizes to the winners. We look forward to welcoming even more golfers and supporters next year as we continue this meaningful tradition.”
Looking Ahead to 2025
This year’s event was over-subscribed, and the organizers extend their apologies to those they were unable to accommodate. The overwhelming interest and support have been truly heartening.
“The energy on the course and at dinner was truly incredible,” said Candra Tanpatti, organizer of the RHCC. “It’s not every day that you see such camaraderie and generosity in action. We’re thrilled with the response and already looking ahead to making next year’s event even bigger and better. Watch out for the Return of the Red Hornet!”
In response to enquiries from participants and attendees, as well as from those who had to be turned away due to capacity limitations, the organizers are already planning for the next edition of the Red Hornet Chairman’s Cup – Golf for a Cause to be held in the first week of December 2025.
To ensure you don’t miss out on next year’s tournament or dinner, we encourage sponsors, partners, and participants to mark their calendars early. See you next year!
