Wing Bank partners with HFCA to provide football programs for underprivileged youth in Siem Reap

Wing Bank & Happy Football Cambodia Australia (HFCA) have inked a partnership which will ensure the Sras Srong Village youth, in Siem Reap province, can continue to play football in a safe and caring environment.

Paraic Grogan, Founder Happy Football Cambodia Australia said: ‘HFCA is honoured to join forces with one of Cambodia’s most respected financial institutions. Wing Bank have provided excellent service across Cambodia for over 14 years and now as a commercial bank, will continue to carry on the good works they have started.”

“We are delighted that Wing Bank will sponsor HFCA’s football program at Sras Srong village in Siem Reap and this will bring great benefit to the village youth,” he added.

Answering a direct questions from Cambodia Investment Review at the launch event the sponsorship amount was not disclosed however according to Paraic Grogan the funds will be mainly invested in equipment as well as every day running costs of the organization.

Wing Bank’s support will allow HFCA to continue their work

HFCA has been running weekly football training in Siem Reap city since 2017 and in February 2020 HFCA launched their Siem Reap Village football programs in Oroong Village, Chub Smack Village and Sras Srong Village. HFCA is the first organisation to run a formal sports program in these three villages and on average 50 girls across the three programs are attending regularly.

Han Peng Kwang, CEO of Wing Bank said: “This partnership, which is for one year, is a great example of Wing Bank’s ongoing commitment to supporting communities in rural Cambodia, both via our excellent financial and non-financial products and services and  providing vital support to the local community,”

“Playing football is not only good for their health, but also it can help youth to work together as a team. That will bring about solidarity in the community,” he added.

Community care is rooted at the heart of Wing Bank’s corporate philosophy, and the bank has strived to engage employees and our business partners in an array of social responsibility activities.

Although Wing Bank has already achieved so many milestones, there are more exciting times ahead. The bank will continue to develop new products and services to meet the needs of the community and expand more community projects across the kingdom.

Founded in 2005, HFCA is an NGO aimed at empowering underprivileged youth in Cambodia through the medium of football. HFCA ensures that underprivileged youth get access to high quality training, coaches, team building and mobility opportunities.

This supports well-being, mental health, self-esteem and crucially provides pathways into further opportunities by developing soft skills for success in education and employment.
