Cambodia Digital and Women in Tech Awards: Pioneers in Digital Innovation Recognized

The Cambodia Digital Awards (CDA23) and Women in Tech Awards 2023, in a ceremony graced by His Excellency Chea Vandeth, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, have announced the winners of this year’s prestigious digital awards. The event, held at the Raffle Le Royal, was a gathering of luminaries from the public and private sectors, the start-up community, and development partners, marking a significant moment in Cambodia’s digital landscape.

CDA2023, in its 9th edition, continued its tradition of celebrating the remarkable achievements of organizations, businesses, and startups that have been instrumental in driving innovative digital products or services, thus playing a pivotal role in the country’s digital transformation.

In parallel, the CADT and Digital Transformation Center Cambodia of GiZ, with the support of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Women Affairs, relaunched the 4th edition of the Women in Tech Awards. This initiative shines a light on the incredible contributions of women entrepreneurs in the digital sector, highlighting their roles as engineers, young tech professionals, government leaders in digital transformation, and creative industry players.

The journey to the awards was competitive and inspiring. The Cambodia Digital Awards received over 50 applications, narrowing down to 29 finalists, while the Women In Tech Awards saw more than 58 nominations, with 25 making it to the final round.

The Women in Tech Awards 2023 (WITA2023) honored extraordinary women in five categories:

  1. Digital Youngster of the Year: Chun Phallamonunh, for her “Puthi Campaign”, a national cybersecurity awareness initiative.
  2. Digital Creative of the Year: Meng Molinna, recognized for creating a platform that empowers youth to tackle academic challenges.
  3. Digital Engineer of the Year: TES Putthira, celebrated for her leadership in overseeing numerous digital projects.
  4. Digital Entrepreneur of the Year: Chau Lon Molika, the force behind Prohose Official, an e-business collaborating with over 30 local product suppliers.
  5. Female Digital Government Innovator of the Year: OUNG SOMEY of the National Bank of Cambodia, for her innovative contributions.

The CDA2023 bestowed awards in five distinct categories:

  1. Best Digital R&D of the Year: Awarded to Chalatex of CAM-Science.
  2. Best Social Innovation Technology of the Year: DamDoh App of DamDoh.
  3. Best Digital Content of the Year: Kiripost of Kiripost.
  4. Best Digital Innovation Organization of the Year: Wing Bank from Wing Bank Plc.

Increasing Capacity of Cambodia’s Digital Startups

A special recognition, the Minister Startup Award, was conferred to “TenBox!!!”, acknowledging its role in enhancing the competitiveness, productivity, efficiency, and innovation capacity of national digital startups.

His Excellency Chea Vandeth, in his address, lauded the winners: “Each of these awardees exemplifies the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship that is vital for our digital future. Their contributions not only empower our tech ecosystem but also lay a strong foundation for a digitally inclusive Cambodia.”

Chun Phallamonunh, the Digital Youngster of the Year, shared her gratitude: “This award is not just for me but for everyone who believes in making digital knowledge accessible and secure for all.”

Chau Lon Molika, celebrated as the Digital Entrepreneur of the Year, commented, “Our journey with Prohose Official shows that digital entrepreneurship can be a powerful tool for economic empowerment and community building.”

The event not only recognized individual excellence but also underscored the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders in fostering a robust digital ecosystem in Cambodia. The organizing committee, in their concluding remarks, extended heartfelt congratulations to all the winners, acknowledging their role as pioneers in shaping a dynamic digital society in Cambodia.
