Cambodia Investment Review

The Cambodian Institute of Directors (Cam-IoD) has announced the election of Mr. Matthew Rendall, Partner at Kinstellar Southeast Asia, as its new Chairperson, and Mr. Subhadeep Chowdhury, Founder and Director of Profitence (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., as Vice Chairperson, marking a new chapter in the institute’s mission to elevate corporate governance across Cambodia’s private and public sectors.

Strengthening Corporate Governance in Cambodia

Speaking to Cambodia Investment Review, Matthew Rendall emphasized the growing importance of sound governance in today’s competitive business environment. “Corporate good governance is pivotal to the success and sustainability of companies,” he said. “The courses offered by the IoD seek to inculcate good governance in Cambodian companies and instill confidence among potential investors, joint venture partners, and customers.”

Rendall noted that well-trained directors are essential for long-term growth, helping Cambodian firms become more competitive both domestically and internationally. “Having properly trained directors should pave the way for companies to grow and prosper in an ever-competitive marketplace and make them more able to take on international opportunities,” he said.

He added that investors and partners increasingly consider governance credentials when choosing collaborators, with “corporate good governance and proper directorship” becoming critical differentiators in attracting investment and fostering sustainable growth.

Building Leadership Capacity for a Changing Economy

Vice Chairperson Subhadeep Chowdhury echoed these sentiments, underscoring the role of professional director training in shaping Cambodia’s economic trajectory. “For Cambodia’s continued economic ascent, qualified and seasoned directors are non-negotiable,” he said. “The IoD’s directorship qualifications are vital because they not only equip leaders with globally relevant governance knowledge but also ensure they understand and respect the unique local fabric and regulatory landscape of Cambodia.”

About the Cambodian Institute of Directors

Launched in early 2024, the Cambodian Institute of Directors serves as the Kingdom’s leading resource for board directors and executives committed to professionalizing corporate leadership. Developed over two years, it remains the only institute in Cambodia offering certification aligned with international corporate governance standards.

Cam-IoD offers a range of programs—including small group sessions, webinars, workshops, and exclusive networking opportunities for certified directors—designed to help business leaders navigate evolving corporate expectations. As Cambodia’s business and regulatory landscape matures, the institute aims to position the Kingdom as a regional leader in corporate governance.

The organization is supported by Phillip Capital Group Cambodia and Acclime Cambodia as Platinum Founding Sponsors, with the International Business Chamber of Cambodia (IBC) serving as a supporting partner and the Association of Banks in Cambodia (ABC) as a bronze sponsor.

Driving a Vision for Responsible Growth

Under the new leadership, Cam-IoD reaffirmed its vision for Cambodia to become a leader in corporate governance in Southeast Asia. The institute’s mission is to empower Cambodian business leaders to become regional champions of good governance, grounded in its core values of integrity, innovation, respect, and member focus.

As expectations for transparency and accountability rise both domestically and internationally, Cam-IoD’s leadership transition represents a timely move to strengthen the foundations of responsible corporate growth in Cambodia’s rapidly evolving economy.
