Maybank Unveils Inaugural Flagship Olympic Branch In Phnom Penh To Drive Customer-Centric Banking

Cambodia Investment Review

Maybank Cambodia has launched its first flagship branch in Phnom Penh, signaling a major step in its expansion strategy and commitment to customer-focused banking. Located beside the National Olympic Stadium, the new Olympic Branch combines digital convenience with personalised, in-branch services aimed at retail, SME, and corporate clients.

The opening follows a period of strong growth for the bank. In 2024, Maybank Cambodia recorded a 37% rise in new-to-bank customers, supported by its wider branch network and strengthened digital platforms. The flagship branch is designed to advance Maybank Group’s M25+ strategy and deepen customer engagement in a market where competition for retail and SME banking continues to intensify.

Heritage-inspired design with a modern focus

The Olympic Branch stands out with a striking yellow façade and a weaving motif inspired by traditional Khmer textiles. The design reflects Maybank’s broader commitment to cultural sustainability and initiatives such as the Maybank Women Eco-Weavers programme, which supports women’s economic empowerment through textile arts.

Inside, the branch offers a differentiated layout compared to traditional banking halls. The ground floor is built for customer interaction, with café-style seating and complimentary coffee to create a more welcoming environment. Transactional services are located on the first floor, while the second floor hosts a Premier Wealth Lounge and Business Engagement Hall for high-value clients, corporate customers, and private consultations.

Maybank Cambodia Chief Executive Officer and Country Head Rath Sophoan said the launch of the flagship was a “strategic affirmation” of the bank’s long-term presence in the Kingdom. “We will continue to drive innovation and Humanise Financial Services, with the aim of building the most trusted financial relationship in Cambodia while strengthening our position as the Best ASEAN Bank in the country,” he said.

New campaigns to boost customer loyalty

To mark the launch, Maybank rolled out special promotions, including preferential financing packages, Premier Wealth incentives, and digital rewards exclusive to Olympic Branch customers.

The event also highlighted Maybank’s ongoing partnership with Manchester United. Four winners of the bank’s “Win Trip to Old Trafford” campaign were announced, each receiving an all-expenses-paid trip to watch the Premier League team live in Manchester. A new campaign for the upcoming season was also unveiled, offering additional chances for customers to win similar experiences.

Expanding investment in Cambodia’s banking sector

Maybank Cambodia’s flagship Olympic Branch marks the beginning of a broader investment in modernising its physical network. The bank has stated that further flagship locations are planned in line with the Group’s M25+ strategy, with a continued focus on financial inclusion, digitalisation, and customer experience.

The launch underscores the growing importance of Cambodia in Maybank’s regional portfolio and reflects rising competition among foreign and local banks to capture the country’s expanding consumer and SME markets.
