New Education Milestone: Australian High School Qualification Arrives in Cambodia Through the Australia Cambodia Education Academy

Cambodia Investment Review

Cambodian students now have access to an internationally recognized Australian senior secondary qualification for the first time, following a landmark partnership between SACE International and the Australia Cambodia Education Academy (AusCam).

The partnership introduces the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) to Cambodia, offering students a globally accredited pathway to higher education in Australia and beyond. AusCam, based in Phnom Penh, will integrate the SACE curriculum alongside Cambodia’s national high school certificate, allowing students to earn dual qualifications.

His Excellency Derek Yip, Australia’s Ambassador to Cambodia, praised the collaboration and its potential to shape the future of education in the country.

“I would like to congratulate both the SACE Board and AusCam for this shared vision of fostering academic achievement and supporting young learners to reach their full potential. This partnership represents the future of education, and I am confident it will offer Cambodian students a pathway to globally recognized qualifications and success.”

A new educational pathway for Cambodian students

The SACE qualification has been successfully delivered across the Asia Pacific region for more than 40 years, with over 40,000 graduates since 1982. Unlike traditional examination-focused systems, 70 percent of a student’s final grade is derived from coursework, projects, and collaborative activities, reducing reliance on final exams and fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability.

Michaela Bensley, chief executive of the SACE Board of South Australia, highlighted the program’s innovative approach to teaching and learning.

“SACE has been taught successfully for more than 40 years internationally across the Asia Pacific region. Over 40,000 SACE International students have graduated since 1982. The SACE qualification is transforming education globally, and we are thrilled to be expanding into Cambodia for the first time.”

“SACE offers a different style of teaching and learning. The curriculum equips students not only with deep academic knowledge but also critical skills for success at university, in their careers, and in life—skills such as adaptability, flexibility, critical thinking, and problem-solving. These life skills help students advance on their journey to higher education and career success, whether in Cambodia, Australia, or beyond.”

Jane Johnson, chief executive of StudyAdelaide, said SACE International graduates are well-prepared to transition into tertiary education in Adelaide.

“Completing the South Australian Certificate of Education uniquely prepares students to progress into tertiary education in Adelaide. Adelaide warmly welcomes international students from over 130 countries, offering a safe and compact city with world-class universities, student accommodations, and vibrant cultural opportunities.”

Katey Cheang, board member of AusCam, emphasized the importance of integrating Australian education with Cambodia’s cultural heritage.

“AusCam Academy offers a premier Cambodian education, integrating an Australian curriculum with Khmer language, history, traditions, and culture. This ensures an international quality education while preserving national values and identity. We are proud to be the first South Australian government-accredited school to provide the Australian high school qualification in Cambodia.”

Lance Jackson, principal of AusCam, said the school is committed to producing well-rounded graduates with strong international qualifications.

“AusCam Academy provides internationally recognized education, cultivating globally adaptable graduates possessing well-rounded skills and a comprehensive worldview. South Australian qualifications facilitate this objective.”

A milestone for Cambodia’s education sector

Mao Sreng, country director of IDP Education and ACE Cambodia, said students at AusCam will benefit from expert guidance when seeking university placements abroad.

“It is wonderful students now have access to Australian-standard education and qualifications at the Australia Cambodia Education Academy (AusCam) through the SACE program of the South Australian government. AusCam students receive expert guidance from IDP Education counsellors, ensuring seamless placement in Australian, UK, New Zealand, Canadian, or US institutions for those pursuing international education opportunities.”
