Cambodia Investment Review
Ruder Finn, one of the world’s largest independent communications and integrated marketing consultancies, has acquired Southeast Asia-based ERA Communications, a strategic move that strengthens its direct presence across Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.
The acquisition, announced today, will see ERA’s operations—including its 26-person team in Cambodia—integrated under the new brand Ruder Finn Era. The firm will maintain its deep local insight while gaining access to Ruder Finn’s global expertise, technology, and client network. Cambodia Investment Review asked about the financial value of the deal, but Ruder Finn declined to disclose the acquisition amount.
Major Regional Expansion
ERA’s addition expands Ruder Finn’s Southeast Asia footprint beyond its existing offices in Singapore and Malaysia, reinforcing its status as the leading independent consultancy in the region. The move comes amid growing demand from global brands for integrated communications strategies tailored to emerging markets.

“Expansion in the Asia-Pacific region is an integral part of our global growth strategy,” said Ruder Finn CEO Kathy Bloomgarden. “Emerging markets throughout APAC and SEA represent a significant opportunity for clients looking to grow their brand footprints. ERA Communications brings outstanding local insight and a proven track record of impact.”
Founded in 2015, ERA Communications quickly built a reputation for bold and effective campaigns, collecting multiple regional awards including Southeast Asia PR Campaign of the Year (three years running) and seven accolades at the 2025 Campaign PR Awards Asia-Pacific. The firm operates across B2B communications, social impact, digital engagement, reputation management, and branding.

Local Strength, Global Network
In Cambodia, ERA’s rapid growth over the past three and a half years has established it as a go-to firm for navigating a complex and evolving communications environment. Under the new banner of Ruder Finn Era, the Phnom Penh team is expected to play a key role in delivering integrated campaigns backed by global resources and AI-enabled strategy tools.
“Cambodia’s communications market has been challenging in recent years, but our team has consistently delivered impactful work,” said Alex Dance, Managing Director of ERA Cambodia. “This next chapter as Ruder Finn Era is a milestone for us and a testament to Cambodia’s growing importance on the regional stage.”
The company’s global strategy is also being driven by cutting-edge initiatives such as rf.TechLab, Ruder Finn’s emerging technologies incubator. The firm recently launched an AI Advisory Council led by former OpenAI executive Zack Kass, part of a broader vision to reshape communications with technology-led storytelling.
“Leveraging advanced AI technology, local insights, and global perspectives, we believe the most effective strategies blend authentic storytelling with deep market expertise,” said Elan Shou, Global Chief Growth Officer and Managing Director of Ruder Finn Asia.
Reinforcing ASEAN’s Strategic Role
The acquisition underscores how major communications players are repositioning around ASEAN’s emerging economies. Cambodia, in particular, is gaining attention for its young consumer base and growing demand for strategic brand communications, especially in sectors like fintech, hospitality, and consumer goods.
With over 800 consultants in Asia-Pacific and key clients including Visa, Emirates, Four Seasons, L’Oréal, Hermès, and Volkswagen Group, Ruder Finn’s expansion into Cambodia signals rising confidence in the market’s long-term potential.
