Applications for the Australia Awards Scholarships has opened, offering Cambodian students the opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies at leading universities in Australia. The application window runs until April 30, 2025, for the 2026 academic intake.

AAS is part of the Australian Government’s development aid program, designed to strengthen ties between Cambodia and Australia while supporting Cambodia’s economic development. Since its inception in 1994, the initiative has funded over 1,000 Cambodians, equipping them with advanced education to contribute to national progress.

Open To Cambodian Citizens Across Various Sectors

The scholarships cover full tuition fees, return air travel, accommodation and living expenses, textbooks, and study materials. Additional support includes an introductory academic program, overseas student health cover, pre-course English training (if required), supplementary academic assistance, and fieldwork expenses for research students.

The program is open to Cambodian citizens across various sectors, including the public sector, academia, think tanks, civil society organizations, media, and private enterprises. AAS strongly encourages applications from women, people with disabilities, indigenous and ethnic minorities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and other marginalized groups.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must have been residents of Cambodia for at least two years before the application deadline and have at least two years of full-time work experience or its equivalent. Academic qualifications vary by program: master’s applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree, while PhD candidates must have completed a relevant master’s degree.

English proficiency is also a key requirement:

  • Master’s by Coursework: IELTS 6.0 (no sub-band below 5.5)
  • Master’s by Research / PhD: IELTS 6.5 (no sub-band below 6.0)
