EuroCham Interview: Dina Tiv on Building Compliance Partner and Simplifying Tax, HR, and Regulatory Complexity in Cambodia

By Henry Henderson

EuroCham Junior Communications Officer Henry Henderson spoke with Dina Tiv, Managing Director and Founder of Compliance Partner, to discuss her transition from senior finance roles in a multinational company to launching her own professional consulting firm in Cambodia.

In the conversation, Dina reflects on leadership, compliance challenges, and how simplifying tax, HR, and regulatory processes can support sustainable business growth in an increasingly complex operating environment.

Gap In The Market

Henry: You previously held senior finance and tax roles in a multinational company in Cambodia. What motivated you to establish Compliance Partner, and what gap in the market were you aiming to address?

Dina: I previously held a senior role in a multinational company, and it was a very meaningful experience for me. I learned a lot from my bosses and colleagues, and I met many new people along the way. Working there was great and comfortable, but I found myself wanting to be more than a business partner who simply provided ideas from a finance perspective.

I wanted to be involved in leading the business, accepting new challenges and opportunities, coaching others, and providing solutions under the new responsibilities of Managing Director and business founder. These reasons gave me purpose and motivation and pushed me to confidently establish Compliance Partner.

Starting a professional business consulting services company is neither simple nor complicated. In today’s competitive market, professional standards, acceptance requirements, and the ability to be seen and trusted by the market and business partners are crucial. Having gone through the entire process of establishing the company from scratch, I have learned that mutual trust and the opportunities provided by the market play a very important role in achieving business goals for a new start-up company like ours.

Henry: How has your experience in financial management, tax, and strategic planning shaped the way you lead Compliance Partner today?

Dina: With more than a decade of experience in accounting, tax, and finance — especially my involvement in management and strategic planning — this background has shaped my everyday leadership style. My approach is direct, to the point, and focused on clear guidance, communication, and solution-based thinking.

At work, I apply what I learned in the real business world, where I had the opportunity to be coached and advised by my bosses. I observed how they made decisions, negotiated, and led the business and their teams toward achieving goals. I also had the chance to engage with skilled professionals and develop my capabilities from theory into practical solutions and strategies.

Everyone around me and every challenge taught me something. Today, in my own business, those experiences have become part of our successful business model.

Tax, HR, and Regulatory Requirements Complex

Henry: Many companies find tax, HR, and regulatory requirements complex in Cambodia. What are the most common compliance challenges you see among local and international businesses?

Dina: For both local and international businesses, regulatory compliance in all aspects is very important, and there is no doubt that non-compliance cannot be negotiated. Is it complex? Yes — if businesses do not understand the requirements, do not pay attention, do not organise, classify, or commit to compliance, and especially if they do not know how.

Every aspect of business transactions needs to properly identify the cause and effect and be done correctly from the start. But what if it was not done right from the beginning? Both situations create the need for a professional adviser like Compliance Partner.

Henry: Compliance Partner offers integrated services across tax, HR, bookkeeping, and recruitment. How does this holistic approach add value for clients operating in Cambodia?

Dina: Correct documentation and proper recording are the first steps and the foundation of regulatory compliance. They lead to better decision-making for business owners and support long-term business growth.

Beyond that, knowing what will change, what to prepare in advance, when things need to be done, and how to do them helps businesses avoid unnecessary stress and issues. Business leaders can leave all compliance matters to experts like Compliance Partner, trusting in our professionalism, while they focus on leadership and growth.

That is why Compliance Partner offers integrated services across tax, HR, bookkeeping, and recruitment — everything is handled in one place, with clear responsibility.

Compliance Partner always prioritises solutions and simplifies tasks for our clients. When everything seems complex or impossible, our clients gain clarity and confidence in their decisions. I believe there is nothing better than working with a partner who is reliable, trustworthy, responsible, and professional in all aspects.

Regulatory and Business Environment Evolving

Henry: From your perspective, how is Cambodia’s regulatory and business environment evolving — and what should companies be paying closer attention to today?

Dina: Companies and businesses in Cambodia should pay close attention to new and updated regulations from local authorities. It is important to stay informed, updated, and to adopt and adapt these changes correctly and on time in daily business transactions.

Henry: Looking ahead, what are your priorities for Compliance Partner, and how do you hope to contribute to strengthening Cambodia’s business ecosystem?

Dina: I believe every business in Cambodia wants to stay compliant in all aspects. However, many feel overwhelmed or anxious when thinking about compliance.

Compliance Partner understands this, and we prioritise solutions and simplicity.

If it sounds complex, we simplify it.
If it sounds unclear, we clarify it.
If it sounds like a problem, we provide solutions.
If there is doubt, we are professional and reliable.

We hope this is how we can contribute to strengthening Cambodia’s business ecosystem.
