Etihad Airways Touches Down in Phnom Penh: A New Gateway Connecting Cambodia to the World

Cambodia Investment Review

Etihad Airways has officially launched its first-ever flights to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, marking another major step in the airline’s rapid global expansion. The sold-out inaugural flight landed at the newly opened Techo International Airport, linking Abu Dhabi to one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing tourism and investment destinations.

Strengthening Regional Connectivity

The new service adds Phnom Penh as Etihad’s 83rd destination worldwide and its ninth new route in 2025, with 21 additional routes planned by year-end. The route will initially operate four times weekly using Etihad’s brand-new Airbus A321LR, increasing to six flights per week from November 1, 2025.

Chief Executive Officer Antonoaldo Neves said the new route underscores Etihad’s commitment to expanding in Southeast Asia and connecting Cambodia’s dynamic economy with global markets. ā€œWe’re proud to expand our network in Southeast Asia, creating new connections for commerce and tourism between Abu Dhabi and the region,ā€ Neves said. ā€œCambodia is an extraordinary destination, rich in culture and history, and we’re excited to make it more accessible to travelers worldwide.ā€

New Generation Aircraft and Premium Experience

The Phnom Penh route is operated by Etihad’s next-generation A321LR, configured with three cabin classes — including the airline’s first-ever narrowbody First Suites. These private enclosed spaces feature sliding doors, fully-flat beds, and bespoke design elements typically reserved for long-haul aircraft. The aircraft also includes Etihad’s award-winning Business Class and Economy Smart seats, ensuring a consistent premium travel experience.

From Abu Dhabi, travelers gain access to one of the world’s most modern aviation hubs — Zayed International Airport — offering smooth transit options to destinations across the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. Conversely, Cambodian travelers will benefit from direct access to Abu Dhabi’s growing portfolio of cultural and leisure attractions, including the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Louvre Abu Dhabi.

Expanding Across Asia

Etihad continues to strengthen its Asian footprint with upcoming launches to Krabi, Hanoi, Chiang Mai, and Hong Kong. The airline has announced plans for 30 new routes across four continents, including recently confirmed services to Damascus, Palma de Mallorca, and Zanzibar set to launch next summer.

Flight schedules for the new Phnom Penh service are as follows:

  • EY434: Abu Dhabi (20:45) → Phnom Penh (06:55 +1), operating Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday
  • EY435: Phnom Penh (08:30) → Abu Dhabi (12:50), operating Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday
