Cambodia Investment Review
Mad Monkey Hostels has entered a strategic partnership with Vireak Buntham Express Co., Ltd. to launch the Mad Monkey Kampot Riverside Resort, targeting both international and domestic travelers as Cambodia’s tourism industry continues to expand. The new resort is scheduled to open by the end of 2025 and is designed to boost Kampot’s position as a major leisure destination in the Kingdom.
The collaboration was formalized on September 5, 2025, through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Neak Oknha Suo Vireak, CEO of Vireak Buntham Express, and Alex Darroch, Co-Founder of Mad Monkey. The partnership brings together Vireak Buntham’s infrastructure and logistics expertise with Mad Monkey’s global reputation for community-driven, social, and sustainable hospitality.

According to the companies, the resort is designed to encourage tourism flows, generate local employment, and highlight Kampot’s cultural and natural attractions. By integrating strong infrastructure capacity with innovative hospitality offerings, the development seeks to align with Cambodia’s national strategy for sustainable tourism growth.
A Resort Beyond Accommodation
Just ten minutes from Kampot’s historic center, the new Mad Monkey Kampot Riverside Resort will feature private bungalows, dormitories, a riverside pool, wellness amenities such as a gym, sauna, and ice plunges, along with water-based activities including kayaking, paddleboarding, and tubing.
A dedicated event space is also planned to host music, cultural showcases, and international DJ performances, reinforcing Mad Monkey’s well-known entertainment-driven model. Visitors will also have access to tours of Kampot pepper farms, Bokor Mountain, and the Kep crab market.
“We’re building more than just beds—we’re creating a space where travelers, locals, and expats can connect, explore, and celebrate life together,” said Alex Darroch, Co-Founder of Mad Monkey. “With riverside adventures, wellness facilities, and unforgettable events, Kampot is set to become one of our most exciting destinations yet.”
Sustainable Tourism and Community Engagement
Both companies have highlighted their commitment to sustainable tourism and community support. Mad Monkey’s model integrates cultural immersion and local partnerships, while Vireak Buntham brings decades of transport and infrastructure expertise.
The project is expected to contribute significantly to Kampot’s development as a leading tourism destination, with the opening scheduled for late 2025.
