Cambodia Investment Review
Himawari Hotel Apartments has marked its 25th anniversary, commemorating a quarter-century of service to Cambodia’s tourism and hospitality industry. Since opening in 2000, the riverside property has become a trusted destination for business travelers, diplomats, and long-term guests seeking comfort and convenience in the capital.
The milestone was celebrated under the theme “25 Years of Timeless Hospitality,” reinforcing Himawari’s long-standing commitment to quality service, cultural connection, and the development of Cambodian tourism. Over the years, the hotel has built a strong reputation for blending personalized service with modern amenities, while serving as a reliable venue for government and business engagements.
Reflecting on Resilience and Renewal
Speaking at the anniversary event, Mr. Andrew Tay, Director of Himawari Hotel Apartments, expressed deep gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, which posed significant challenges to the hospitality industry.
“The government’s swift and effective response allowed us to overcome the difficulties of the past few years,” said Mr. Tay. “We used this time as an opportunity to reinvest in our property and service offering.”

The hotel has since undergone key upgrades, including the renovation of guest rooms, enhancements to its meeting facilities, modernization of elevators, and a shift toward more personalized guest services. These improvements aim to meet evolving traveler expectations while maintaining the hotel’s signature charm and hospitality.
“Our goal is not only to provide a place to stay,” Mr. Tay added, “but to offer our guests an enriching and memorable experience of Phnom Penh.”
Honoring Partnerships and Staff
To commemorate the occasion, Himawari hosted a Guest Appreciation Night, attended by long-time partners, government representatives, corporate clients, and residents. The event also recognized several staff members who have been with the hotel since its pre-opening phase—an acknowledgment of the team’s role in building and sustaining the hotel’s success over the past 25 years.

Attendees praised the property’s consistency in service quality, its strategic riverside location, and its contribution to promoting Phnom Penh as a destination for both work and leisure.
Supporting Cambodia’s Tourism Future
Looking ahead, Himawari Hotel Apartments has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Cambodia’s tourism development by aligning with national goals and showcasing Khmer cultural values in its hospitality approach. The hotel plans to deepen its engagement with both local and international partners as the country continues to welcome growing numbers of visitors.
As Phnom Penh undergoes rapid urban and economic transformation, Himawari remains one of the few long-standing hospitality brands that has adapted while staying rooted in the city’s cultural and diplomatic landscape.

The 25-year anniversary serves not only as a reflection on the past but as a signal of continued ambition to innovate, serve, and contribute to the Cambodian tourism sector for years to come.
