American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP) is proud to announce the grand opening of its brand-new Emerging Technology Lab (ETL), a cutting-edge space dedicated to advancing education and industry collaboration in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Robotics.
The event was honored by the presence of His Excellency Liv Sophanarith, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications. He delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of technological innovation and education, and highlighting how the Emerging Technology Lab reflects the values upheld by the Ministry: innovation, resilience, and the harnessing of technology to improve the lives of all Cambodians.
Bridge The Gap Between Academic Knowledge and Real-World Application
Guests had an exclusive tour of the ETL Lab, where they explored its capabilities in AI — including image detection, emotion detection and text-to-image generation — as well as cybersecurity, with insights into its importance and a real-time overview of global threats. They also experienced engaging and immersive VR tools and were introduced to impressive robots from the Robotics Lab.

The ETL is designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application, preparing the next generation of digital leaders to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven economy. The lab features three specialized areas:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lab: Equipped with the latest AI tools, including machine learning platforms, facial recognition systems, and generative AI applications, students will explore core concepts and develop intelligent solutions for research and business challenges.
- Cybersecurity Lab (SOC): A state-of-the-art Security Operations Center where participants will engage in live simulations, threat detection exercises, and incident response training to combat the rising digital risks faced by organizations today.
- Robotics Lab: Featuring autonomous robots, smart vehicles, 3D modeling, and virtual reality setups, this space allows learners to design, build, and test innovative robotics solutions and explore IoT integration across various industries such as healthcare, logistics, and agriculture.
AUPP President, Dr. Malcolm McIver, expressed pride in this milestone, stating that the launch of the ETL reflects the university’s commitment to innovation and to preparing Cambodia’s next generation of digital leaders. More than just a physical space, he is confident the ETL serves as a hub for collaboration, research, and practical learning in emerging technologies. Its aim is to equip students with the necessary skills and ethical understanding to shape Cambodia’s digital future.
