Myanmar Investment Review
A multi-sector Cambodian business delegation has completed a focused exploratory visit to Yangon, Myanmar, assessing business conditions and potential avenues for regional engagement.
The visit, organized by Harrison White, Katherine McLean, and Andrew Millar, brought together representatives from Cambodiaâs investment, legal, F&B, logistics, education, and tech sectors to better understand Myanmarâs evolving economic environment.
Strengthening CambodiaâMyanmar Business Synergies
The delegation focused on sectors where Cambodia and Myanmar share natural commercial overlapsâsuch as logistics, SME development, hospitality, and digital services. The visit was conducted in accordance with official British travel guidance and focused on responsible engagement with local and regional businesses maintaining international standards.
CIR Media CEO Harrison White noted that despite five years of political instability and a recent natural disaster in the countryâs north, Yangonâs private sector continues to operate with resilience.
âWe were struck by the determination, creativity, and overall resilience of the business community here,â said White. âFor those with an informed and long-term perspective, Yangon still offers room for meaningful commercial collaborationâparticularly in industries that are underserved or primed for renewal.â

White added that Myanmarâs young workforce and expanding entrepreneurial ecosystem could offer future opportunities for Cambodian firms looking to scale or diversify regionally.
Diverse Business Engagement Across Core Sectors
Throughout the visit, delegates met with legal and business registration firms, job platforms, logistics providers, property advisors, hotels and restaurants, banks, and fintech companies. These engagements offered insight into Myanmarâs current operational landscape, compliance environment, and areas of resilience across both the formal and informal business sectors.
Andrew Millar, a senior education professional, observed growing momentum within Myanmarâs education and training landscape, driven by rising interest among young students and their parents in cross-border opportunities.
âExtra-curricular schools, higher education institutions, and study abroad agencies are experiencing unprecedented levels of interest in 2025,â he noted. âThis growth is being fuelled by a complex domestic environment and the steady expansion of international partnerships.â
The delegation also connected with local chambers of commerce and advisory bodies working to maintain best practices amid ongoing uncertainty, giving attendees a balanced view of both opportunities and challenges.
“On day one, we were briefed on Myanmarâs general business outlook, which set the stage for the rest of the trip,â said Katherine McLean. âFrom there, we met with legal experts who gave us the lay of the land. There are lots of similarities but also some big differences. It was interesting to see how businesses are adapting and the potential opportunities that are out there.â
In addition to formal business meetings, the group was hosted at a leading five-star hotel and visited some of Yangonâs top cafes, restaurants, and barsâhighlighting that lifestyle and hospitality offerings continue to operate despite macroeconomic constraints.
Possible Return in September Under Consideration
While plans are still being finalized, organizers say that a second delegation to Myanmar is under consideration for September 2025, depending on regional developments and ongoing interest from Cambodian companies.
Organizers noted that the June visit helped to establish initial relationships and validate the interest of stakeholders on both sides.
âWeâre currently evaluating the possibility of returning in September,â they said. âThereâs clearly momentum, but any future trip would depend on security conditions, business readiness, and continued demand from responsible partners.â
