The British Chamber of Commerce Myanmar (BCCM) has launched a formal recruitment process for its next Chief Executive Officer, with the successful candidate expected to start by June 16, 2025. The role, based in Yangon, aims to strengthen bilateral trade ties between Myanmar and the United Kingdom while promoting responsible business practices within the country’s evolving economic landscape.

Strategic Leadership Role Amid Regional Uncertainty

With over 220 member companies and nearly 1,000 participants, BCCM is one of Myanmar’s largest international chambers. The Chamber is looking for a candidate with deep local insight, professional credibility, and the ability to lead the organisation’s strategic, financial, and operational functions.

According to the announcement, the CEO will serve as the public face of the Chamber in Myanmar and abroad, particularly with stakeholders in the UK, the British Embassy, and the British Council. The individual will be responsible for overseeing governance, financial management, membership development, and business services. The position also requires delivering more than 50 events annually and fostering meaningful business connections through working groups and training programs.

Key Criteria: Integrity, Myanmar Experience, and Strategic Vision

The Chamber emphasized the importance of professional integrity and leadership as critical attributes for the position. Candidates must have a recent residency in Myanmar and bring experience from sectors such as business associations, embassies, or international NGOs.

Proficiency in English, strong financial literacy (including profit/loss and cash flow management), and digital marketing skills are essential. Additional desirable experience includes leadership, budget management, and stakeholder engagement. While flexible work options are available, the CEO will be based primarily at the Chamber’s Yangon office.

Inclusive Hiring and Local Requirements

BCCM noted its commitment to diversity and inclusion, encouraging applicants regardless of ethnicity, gender identity, or background. However, candidates must be legally able to reside and work in Myanmar. No relocation, housing, or travel support will be provided, and visa arrangements must be managed independently by the applicant.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interviews between May 12–16, with final selection based on a CV and motivation letter. Applications must be submitted by 17:00 (Myanmar time) on Friday, May 2, 2025.

The Chamber encourages candidates to structure their application using the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) method to effectively demonstrate their suitability.
