Shangri-La Phnom Penh, a new hotel located along the capital’s waterfront, held its soft opening on December 15, marking the Shangri-La Group’s first establishment in Cambodia. The hotel, situated in the Koh Pich area, will officially welcome guests starting December 28, 2024, with a select number of rooms and dining options available during the soft opening period.
At 228 meters tall, Shangri-La Phnom Penh is part of a striking tri-tower complex that contributes to the city’s growing urban landscape. The hotel is expected to play an important role in the ongoing development of Phnom Penh as a destination for both international visitors and business professionals. Its location near key city attractions makes it a convenient choice for travelers looking to explore both the tourism and business offerings of the capital.
Design Inspired by Cambodian Heritage and Culinary Offerings
The hotel’s interior design blends several styles, including Art Deco, Neo-Classical, and traditional Khmer elements. This fusion is intended to reflect Shangri-La’s commitment to both modern design and Asian heritage. The hotel’s 303 rooms and suites offer panoramic views of the confluence of the Mekong, Tonle Sap, and Tonle Bassac rivers. The design incorporates warm wood accents, natural stone, and large windows that allow ample natural light to create a calm atmosphere for guests.

Shangri-La Phnom Penh’s dining options emphasize local Cambodian cuisine, featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Kommune Dining & Social Space will offer traditional Khmer dishes such as Beef Lok Lak and Fish Amok. The hotel also plans to open the Shangri-La Group’s signature Chinese restaurant, Shang Palace, which will serve Peking Duck and other Chinese specialties. The Altitude rooftop bar, set to open in 2025, will offer views of the city, along with cocktails and light bites.
Facilities for Both Leisure and Business Travelers
The hotel includes a range of facilities designed to meet the needs of both leisure and business travelers. One of the hotel’s main features is its large ballroom, which will serve as a venue for events, conferences, and social gatherings. Other amenities include an infinity pool and a wellness center, offering spaces for relaxation. These facilities will open in stages over the coming months.
Ody Odayappan, General Manager of Shangri-La Phnom Penh, commented on the hotel’s soft opening, stating, “We are delighted to mark the soft opening of Shangri-La Phnom Penh, a milestone that reflects both the city’s dynamic growth and Cambodia’s growing tourism sector. This hotel is a testament to our commitment to blending modern sophistication with the rich cultural heritage of Cambodia. We aim to offer not just a comfortable waterfront sanctuary but a true experience that immerses our guests in the unique Khmer spirit of this vibrant city and the heartfelt Asian hospitality Shangri-La is known for. As we look ahead to our full opening in 2025, we are excited to contribute to Phnom Penh’s tourism, business, and cultural development while continuing our efforts to integrate into the local community.”

For the phase one opening beginning December 28, 2024, a select number of guest rooms will be available for booking, and dining options at Kommune Dining & Social Space, Mekong Lounge, and The Atelier are also open for reservations.
