DKT Mekong, an international non-profit organization specializing in sexual and reproductive health, officially launched its operations in Cambodia on Monday, October 14. To mark the launch, the organization hosted a forum titled “Let’s Talk Sexual and Reproductive Health,” addressing the country’s increasing demand for reproductive health products. With consumer interest in such services rising, DKT Mekong’s entry is aimed at meeting the needs of a growing healthcare market.
The event gathered key figures from the healthcare and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) sectors, highlighting DKT Mekong’s role in offering a wide range of products, including short-term contraceptive options like condoms and oral pills, long-acting reversible methods such as IUDs and implants, and safe abortion care. This comprehensive approach aims to address diverse reproductive health needs in Cambodia.
Addressing Cambodia’s Reproductive Health Needs
Rodrigo Portugues, Regional Director of DKT Mekong, emphasized the organization’s commitment to improving reproductive health outcomes in Cambodia by making products more accessible and engaging for consumers. “We are excited to bring our expertise and experience to Cambodia and contribute to improving the country’s reproductive health landscape,” Portugues said. “We source our products from trusted suppliers and create catchy brands that make condoms and contraception attractive, interesting, and fun.”
He further explained that DKT Mekong’s strategy focuses on encouraging higher consumer uptake by breaking down barriers and normalizing conversations around sexual health. “It’s about turning safe sex into a fun, exciting, and approachable choice for everyone,” he added.
Strategic Partnerships to Improve Access
Key to DKT Mekong’s market entry is its collaboration with local distributors and healthcare providers. Vicheth Heng, Managing Director and Founder of MEET HENG (Cambodia) LTD, a pharmaceutical distributor working with DKT Mekong, emphasized the importance of partnerships in expanding access to reproductive health services. “Together with DKT Mekong, we can provide a wider range of contraceptive options and support to women and men across Cambodia,” Heng said.
DKSH Cambodia, another key partner, is helping ensure the availability of DKT Mekong’s products across the country. “Our partnership with DKT Mekong will enable us to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions for reproductive health and family planning,” said Maline Srun, General Manager of Sales and Operations for DKSH Cambodia.
Combating Misinformation and Building Consumer Trust
One challenge discussed during the forum was the prevalence of misinformation about sexual and reproductive health products. H.E. Professor Korn Aun, President of the Cambodian Association of Gynecologists and Endocrinologists (CAGE) and Head of the Gynecological Department at Calmette Hospital, stressed the importance of accurate information and reliable access to services. “Good sexual and reproductive health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being in all matters relating to the reproductive system,” Professor Aun stated. “It enables people to have a satisfying and safe sex life, the capability to reproduce, and the freedom to decide if, when, and how often to do so.”
The forum highlighted the significance of partnerships between DKT Mekong, DKSH Cambodia, and MEET HENG in ensuring consumers can access high-quality reproductive health products. Collaboration between these organizations is expected to be key in addressing the growing demand for reliable, affordable solutions in Cambodia.
Looking ahead, DKT Mekong plans to strengthen its efforts by continuing to partner with healthcare professionals and stakeholders to expand access to reproductive health products. As consumer demand grows, DKT Mekong is positioned to support Cambodia’s journey toward improved sexual and reproductive health outcomes by providing a range of products designed to meet the evolving needs of the market.
