The International Business Chamber (IBC) of Cambodia’s Education Working Group recently hosted its largest networking event of 2024 at the Rosewood Hotel in Phnom Penh, marking a significant stride towards uniting Cambodia’s education sector. The event, attended by over 80 leaders from educational institutions and the private sector, aimed to foster collaboration and dialogue to effectively address the pressing skills gap in Cambodia’s workforce.

The was sponsored by CamEd Business School and MyTed gathering underscored the critical need for a unified approach in tackling the educational challenges that impede the readiness of graduates entering the workforce. This disconnect not only affects their career prospects but also hinders employers across industries who are in dire need of skilled professionals.

“By bringing together key stakeholders from various facets of education and business, we aim to craft a cohesive strategy that enhances skill development and employability among Cambodian youth,” stated Gabriel Helmy, from the IBC Education Working Group.

Katherine, the Executive Director of IBC, emphasized the event’s strategic importance. “Today’s gathering is more than just a meeting; it’s a catalyst for transformative collaboration across Cambodia’s education landscape. We are here not only to discuss but to commit to actionable solutions that will prepare our workforce for the future demands of the global market,” she highlighted.

Gabriel Helmy, Chairperson of the IBC Education Working Group and CEO of The Capacity Specialists, reflected on the event’s achievements. “The enthusiastic participation and the ideas exchanged here today demonstrate a collective commitment to improving education outcomes. IBC Remains Committed To Driving Progress & Innovation

The event featured discussions on several innovative initiatives aimed at narrowing the skills gap, including the P2E program, which integrates internships and apprenticeships, and the newly introduced career guidance initiative designed to assist young Cambodians in making informed career decisions.

Socheata Poum, Founder and CEO of Snoopedu, and Sreyneang Oun, Digital Learning Program Manager, shared their perspectives on the collaborative nature of the event. “Seeing so many dedicated individuals from different educational backgrounds come together gives us hope for a more coordinated approach to education in Cambodia.
