The European Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia (EuroCham Cambodia) welcomed key international figures in a high-profile networking night. This event, headlined by Jiří Kozák, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and His Excellency Dr. Hok Kim Cheng, the Director General for Health, aimed to shine a spotlight on the vast opportunities within Cambodia’s emerging healthcare sector.

Following the launch of the Central and Eastern European Business Association (CEEBAC), this event marked a step towards building stronger economic connections between Central and Eastern Europe and Cambodia. It gathered representatives from top Czech companies and served as an exploratory platform for potential collaborations and partnerships.

A trade partner for the Czech Republic and other European markets

“EuroCham, along with the Czech community in Cambodia, works tirelessly to position Cambodia as a trade partner for the Czech Republic and other European markets. The healthcare sector, teeming with opportunities, is a prime example of how these connections can yield mutually beneficial results,” stated EuroCham Chairman Tassilo Brinzer.

This networking event came on the heels of the Second Session of Bilateral Consultations held on June 15, aimed at fortifying bilateral ties between Cambodia and the Czech Republic. Hosted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the meeting involved Chem Widhya, Secretary of State for Cambodia, and Jiří Kozák.

A joint press statement issued by the foreign ministries highlighted the traditionally strong bonds of friendship between the two nations and their commitment to enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation.

Expressing gratitude towards the Czech government, Chem Widhya underscored the crucial role of their continuous development aid to Cambodia, particularly post liberation from Pol Pot’s genocidal regime. This support, he pointed out, has had a substantial impact on Cambodia’s welfare and progression.

Praising Cambodia’s robust economy and effective handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, Jiří Kozák pointed out that “the political stability and dynamic economic growth of Cambodia within the ASEAN region have encouraged more Czech investors to come to Cambodia.”

Identifying priority sectors like healthcare and education

The officials used this meeting to identify priority sectors like healthcare and education, and to discuss ways to elevate their ties from development cooperation to a robust partnership.

With CEEBAC now in the fold, EuroCham continues to solidify its commitment to fostering economic and cultural ties between Central and Eastern Europe and Cambodia. The launch of CEEBAC in May during an exclusive “A Night out in Europe” event has further strengthened these connections.

In conclusion, Brinzer remarked, “Events like this not only underline the potential for productive collaborations between the Czech Republic and Cambodia but also emphasize the role of organizations like EuroCham and CEEBAC in facilitating international partnerships. We look forward to paving the way for more such fruitful associations.”
