CIS Introduces First Boarding Program in Phnom Penh

Cambodia Investment Review

The Canadian International School of Phnom Penh (CIS), the only Alberta-accredited international school in Cambodia, is set to open the capital city’s first-ever boarding program. The move is aimed at making the school experience more convenient for its 900 students and their families, some of whom face long commutes and demanding work schedules.

The Alberta (Canada) International accredited school and International Baccalaureate (IB) World School’s groundbreaking boarding program, located in the rapidly developing Koh Pich district, is slated to accept students shortly. The district, spearheaded by the Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC), has seen rapid growth and development, adding a vibrant and dynamic backdrop for the innovative boarding program.

“We are proud to be the first boarding program in the heart of Phnom Penh. CIS is offering a rigorous academic program including a focus in supporting student well-being. The boarding program will be a place where students from all around Cambodia and beyond may learn and thrive together,” said Leah Dushenski, CIS Head of School.

High standards set by Canadian educational institutions

The program’s structure provides parents with multiple boarding options, including full-boarding and weekly boarding. The selection provides flexibility for families and addresses the unique needs of the institution’s diverse student body.

The accommodations for the program are nothing short of top-tier. Students will reside in modern villas on Koh Pich, all within a five-minute commute to the school. These villas feature both private and shared rooms with living spaces designed to the high standards set by Canadian educational institutions. Facilities are equipped with gated compounds, ample outdoor space, and round-the-clock security, assuring a safe and secure environment.

“The Team and Faculty Members of CIS will continue to develop excellent educational programs to foster a culture of learning, success, collaboration, and pride,” Dushenski added.

The boarding program’s launch is timed perfectly as enrollment for the upcoming academic year kicks into high gear. As the school grows, it aims to offer a wider array of services to meet the needs of its students, preparing them for the future with a high standard of education, based on the Alberta accredited curriculum and IB programs.

Pave the way for international education in Cambodia

Parents will have the option to choose between 7-day or 5-day boarding options for their children, allowing them to spend weekends or school breaks with their families.

The CIS, with a community of 900 students from Nursery through Grade 12 representing 32 nationalities, has three centrally located campuses with world-class facilities in Phnom Penh. Offering an Alberta (Canadian) curriculum and the IB Diploma Program to its students, it was the first school in Cambodia to receive the Label France Éducation seal from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in recognition of its French Bilingual Program in 2019.

As an authorized IB World School since March 2021, CIS will be offering its first IB and Alberta high school diplomas in June 2023. The school is now accepting applications for its inaugural boarding program until the end of May. Given the limited places, early registration is strongly advised.

With this move, CIS continues to pave the way for international education in Cambodia, providing students with top-notch resources and facilities, and setting them up for success in the global arena.
