Investment in safe water critical for rural Cambodia

The lack of safe water and sanitation access is a critical issue in Cambodia, especially in rural areas.

To address the issue, the collaboration between Water.org and CMA will focus capacity building to potential CMA members to implement Water Credit Adaptation. The participating financial institutions will also receive technical assistance to develop and improve financial products on safe water and sanitation.

The introduction of Water Credit Adaptation will also help microfinance institutions improve client retention and loan quality, ensuring their business continuity and sustained financial sector to continue providing responsible financial services. The collaboration between Water.org and CMA will promote financial inclusion and help families improve their quality of life and health via improved access to safe water and sanitation.

Mr. Sok Voeun, CMA Chairman.

“We are excited to collaborate with Water.org to improve financial access to safe water and sanitation services to SMEs and households in Cambodia,” said Mr. Sok Voeun, CMA Chairman. “Through this collaboration, we hope to strengthen the capacity of our members to develop and offer water and sanitation credit products to their clients, which will significantly impact access to safe water and sanitation in our communities and promote financial inclusion.”

Providing financing solutions to address challenges

Ms. Griselda (Gay) Santos, South East Asia Regional Director of Water.org, said, “We aim to make safe water and sanitation more accessible to people in Cambodia, especially those living in rural areas. By providing financing solutions to address challenges on access to safe water and sanitation, we can improve the quality of life and health of families in Cambodia.”

The collaboration between Water.org and CMA is a positive step towards contributing to the achievement of Cambodia’s goal of reaching 100 percent access to improved water and sanitation in rural areas by 2025, while also promoting financial inclusion.
