Mr. Charles Wong strongly believes in the proper use of factual data, and Shrewsbury School UK’s track record is that 20 percent of its 2021 graduates went on to study at a world top 20 university – such as Cambridge, Oxford and MIT.

“Shrewsbury education will educate and empower each individual pupil to flourish in life and contribute positively to the world around them. This is the focal aim of our school, and we have seen how this positively affects the lives of our pupils, and this is what awaits Cambodian pupils at our school,” he added.

More importantly, the school will invite UK governors to come and share about the school’s mission at Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh Admission and Scholarship Application Day on 19 November at Raffles Hotel together with our school leadership team and target to Cambodian people to understand clearly about the UK education system that Shrewsbury provides international school in Cambodia.

The scholarship will be rolled out through the internationally recognized IQ test that comes with an official report. This IQ test is worth USD600, which will be free-of-charge as part of the programme. To ensure the integrity of this test, a third professional party by the name of Tutor Impact UK was engaged by Shrewsbury International School Phnom Penh to conduct IQ tests to interested students. Tutor Impact is an international education group based in Oxford, UK. They provide proven soft skills training, psychometric assessments to K12 students in 10 different countries, as well as admissions service to the leading universities in the U.K.

“Many gifted children are under performers due to their undiscovered potential. In this sense, we would like to strongly encourage parents to accompany and allow their children to take this professional IQ test to precisely identify and enhance their intellects.” said Mr. Charles Wong.

Eligible for the IQ test

Children between 4 to 11 years old are eligible for this IQ test, they will be classified accordingly as follows: Early Years are children ages 2 to 5; Key Stage 1 are from 5 to 7 years old; and Key Stage 2 are from 7 to 11 years old. An IQ Score of 130 or above is considered as Gifted level, while those with IQ Score of 120-129 are at the Superior level. Apart from academic scholarship, we are pleased to offer additional scholarships for music and sports to Key Stage 2 & 3, a total of sixteen scholarships in 2023-24 will be awarded, compared with nine scholarships offered in 2022-23.

In June 2022, the School received almost 100 applications for the scholarship programme, in the end, 77 children were qualified to take part in the IQ test event. In these,13 (17%) managed to test at the ‘gifted’ level (IQ >130), and a further 10 (13%) managed to test at the ‘superior’ level (IQ 120-129). This means that School’s test-takers performed significantly above the global average of 6-8% of children tested as ‘gifted’, according to the National Association for Gifted Children. Out of these 77 children, who currently attend about 45 different schools in Phnom Penh, 9 (12%) have won the scholarship, making it a highly competitive process.
